Default Track days!

I want to do a track day in my car!

I have been looking at this http://www.trackdays.co.uk/calendar/

There are a few things i would like to clear up,

Its my only car so if i break it im pretty screwed, what are the chances of breaking it so i cant drive it home?

Would i have to buy some of those 888's or simular or just wack any tires on or even find some steelies with some cheapys on?

How much petrol do you lot use?

The closest track is Woodbridge, with an open pit, is this a good track for a 1st timer?

I would just like some advice really, i dont even want stone chips on my car so maybe its not a good idea to take it!

Cheers in advance!

How the hell is anyone else going to know how reliable YOUR car is? lol

IME its well worth getting decent tyres, cheap tyres overheat and fall apart, and your corner speeds will be much lower, they are also less predictable.

About 50 litres on my last trackday

Yes not bad, im there on saturday but not for the trackday itself, pop over and say hi if you go.

If you feel like that about your car, trackdays arent for you IMHO

Cheers for that chip, I would say its reliable to take round a track, 50 litres i could bare with, its not quite a tank!

I went up there the other weekend with Tony Hewitt, it was the Midwick stages, seemed like a good track for rally's but i wasnt sure about track days!

Im not too sure if i will go this Saturday, What are you doing there on Saturday then?

fuel all depends on how hard you thrash it! and how long you are on track!

if your worried about stone chips, then your probably not doing the wisest thing!

We're top speed testing a few cars.

Hoping to see 200mph from one of them

I wouldn't do an airfield track day if you're worried about stone chips. I did one just after I'd had my front end resprayed, I completely covered the front end in masking/duck tape and still got a fair few chips, also needed a new windscreen and fooked 2 brand new Yoko AO48s up due to the shite surface. I do a fair few 'proper' track days but am also a bit of a bufty and like to keep my car mint also, proper tracks are generally ok on the car imo. That being said I did Beford the other week and completely fucked my APs. I personally also do two tanks of fuel on a full day easily. Fucking wicked day though.

I have decided against taking my car on track days just from the comments already, I might be lucky enough to pick up a metro or something like that for next to nothing and strip it right out and trailer it down!

Ed - You could tape up round the stonechip areas (behind wheels, along sills, round front bumper etc) to keep the stonechips at bay.

Or as you say buy a cheap track car. Shame I sold my turbo bravo already, that was a piece of shit in need of a good kicking

if you drive it like a cock, you could kill the engine,/shafts/box/brakes

if you are nice like me...lol

you can drvie there, thrash it all day and drive home

get decent tyres, crap tyres and you go more chance of coming off track

my last track day at bedford i did 150'ish miles used one full tank and 2 full jerry cans

you dont want stone chips? DONT do track days then

slightly off topic, but
Spiky, do you get fuel surge in your 205, on track?
if not what have you done to it to stop it? i was gettin it today round 2nd gear,
right hand hairpins with about 1/2 a tank in.

also, Porkie, thanks for advice years ago on accusumps.. i can confirm they DO work!
