Default BMW M3 Evo problem...

Hi all,

I know this is a Ford Forum etc. but I did have an RST and was wondering if one of the BMW 'boys' could help me out.

I've just purchased an E36 97 M3 Evo and the sodding low oil level light has just come on, it flashes 9 times on start up and goes out!

I've obviously checked the oil level on the dipstick and its spot on (full up)

Anybody got any other ideas what it could be, possibly oil level sensor - if so, anybody know where it is?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Rgds
John

On a lot of cars flashing like this everytime often means dodgy connection.

the amount of times it flashes is telling you something, get the codes checked, the oil level sensor is screwed into the sump.

don't worry about it it is only the oil level sensor gone wrong replace that fill back up with oil and job done do not however turn the ignition on with no oil in it as this will bugger the sensor.

Is taking the oil sensor out an easy job? Unscrew the bolts that hold it in and then replace with the new one???

Cheers for all of your help!

really easy mate, remove the big undertray,, drain your oil, undo the three 10mm nuts, unplug the unit, install new one, fill with oil and job done BUT make sure the gasket surface is clean when you fit the new sensor otherwise it will sweat oil out.
hope this helps
cheers dan
