As sad as it seems,if the majority of RS500's were used daily from day one by any member of joe public, they would be in pretty much the same state(OK maybe not as bad,but pretty ropey!) today...as sad as is it seems!
I know all us RS enthusiasts think as these cars as some of the better models to grace the RS world, but fact is there were plenty of non RS fans that brought RS's back in the day. My neightbour had a new S1,3 door,RS500 and saphire..and they didn't know didley sqwat about its worth or shall we say importance back then!
These posts bring back the reality of the RS brand to me,fast cars which joe public can afford to buy and out perform many a dearer sports car at the same time!!
Still a shame though...and i'm sure its the same for it's owner...but hindsight and all that!!
Theres a 500 near me thats owned by a farmer i think that hesw had from new and every panel is battered, bits hanging off, badly repainted and hes used mastick (sp) to hold the spoliler on! apparently hes also carryed animals around in it too. my mate who has one tried to buy it a year ago and he wanted 25k for it!
i know that car, used to live in belton?? i work just up the road from it, tried to make him two or three offers for it but he wouldnt even listen to what i was gonna offer!!
I still just cant see how a reshelled car can be worth the same as a non reshelled car even if its not on the list. Personally i cant see the problem but there is a certain stigma attached to a reshelled car that puts many poeple off and the fact that its going to be a "reshelled 500" and not just an "rs500" even if you cant notice or if the reshelled car is in fact better than a car that hasnt been shelled.
I hope that makes sense as i'm finding it hard to put down what i'm actually meaning.
I suppose the point is that it's worth what someone's willing to pay for it. If I was in the market for one (I wish!) I would value it being built with a solid shell, over it being 100% authentic.
There is a stigma, but many people want a 'good un'. For me common sense dictates that a car with a new shell is going to be 'better' than one which had had a bunch of welding.
Anyway, it doesn't matter what they're worth, as Paul's going to buy them all!!
