possibly the worst rs500
found this in a garage near to me. its a local car & has been sitting in someones garden for over ten years. the owner has now decided he wants it rebuilt & restored, so he has taken the car to people who dont know anything about cosworths let alone rs500's the pictures dont really do it justice, it really is much worse in real life. every panel is either rotten, dented or both. there's not much floor left. rear chassis rails are just crumbling away in your hands & floor to sill both sides are non existant. dont know haw someone let a car of this value get this bad. people have been knocking on his door for years trying to buy it off him but he just wont sell it. i rember him taking his daughter to school in it when i was at school (13 years ago) & it was always caked in shit & neglected then. good luck to them rebuilding it, there gonna need it

thats what i thought. fair enough if you was gonna be doing the work yourself for the love of the car it'd be worth it. as it is though, reaisticaly its probably gonna cost over Ł15k to get a half descent jobe done, then it never gonna be worth that

As sad as it seems,if the majority of RS500's were used daily from day one by any member of joe public, they would be in pretty much the same state(OK maybe not as bad,but pretty ropey!) today...as sad as is it seems!
I know all us RS enthusiasts think as these cars as some of the better models to grace the RS world, but fact is there were plenty of non RS fans that brought RS's back in the day. My neightbour had a new S1,3 door,RS500 and saphire..and they didn't know didley sqwat about its worth or shall we say importance back then!
These posts bring back the reality of the RS brand to me,fast cars which joe public can afford to buy and out perform many a dearer sports car at the same time!!
Still a shame though...and i'm sure its the same for it's owner...but hindsight and all that!!

It's sad to see it in such a state but at the end of the day it's his car to do with as he pleases. It'll be interesting to see the quality of the work when they're finished with it.

Thats a crime, knowing nothing about 3door sierra, let alone the rs500 just how much work and potentialy costs involved would restoring this actually be? To what you guys would call a decent standard.
Cheers
