Default HELP! coolant pissing out of me car, but not all the time ?!?!?

Right, i feel like pushing me car off a cliff! '2003 Passat S (130)'
last month, the suspension spring snapped for no good reason, now it pissing coolant all over the floor.

if i leave the car standing and fill the coolant bottle up, its fine, i can leave it days, it stays full. ive left it running and no coolant comes out....... until it hits 90 degrees (normal running temperature) then it starts dripping out. i can drive it cold, it still doesnt piss out, not until it hits that magic 90 degreese mark.

ive stuck me head under, but i cant see anything cos it has plastic covers everywhere.

does anyone know what it sounds like, let me know what faulty bit im looking for and if a amature (me!) can fix it or is it a professional job?

cheers.

I would look at the cap seal first, if this is not good the coolant can get to over 100c in places and overheat locally, causing air bubbles to form which pressurise the system, and so lose coolant, just a cheap thing to try first.

pop into a garage and get the coolant system pressure tested, should show you the leak, either that or add some of the dye to the coolant that shows up under ultraviolet, will show you instantly, lamp and fluid wont cost youa lot atall

When the thermostat opens does the coolant take a new route which when pressurised leaks, I would check the pipework after the thermostat.
