My Cossie is like Cheech and Chong..... STILL SMOKIN'!!!!
Hi everyone,
I've got a F reg Saph Cosworth, done 94,000ish miles and is all standard apart from a Magnex exhaust and a Ramiar cone filter.
I've had it about 10 months now, before i bought it had been used VERY little for two years.
Once i got it home and started using it, it started to smoke, so had the turbo rebuilt as it was knackered. Got it back all nice and shiney, but the car still smoked....
Decided to have the head rebuilt (we had suspisions of this being worn too, so wasn't too bothered) with new guids, stem seals, crack test etc etc... Was fitted back on with a Grp A head gasket.
When the head was off my engineer who did the work said that everything looked fine and dandy, he also checked the (standard) breather and said it was also fine and clear. Engine idles lovely, no rattles, just a nice sounding engine.
BUT...... IT STILL SMOKES!!!!
not all the time, only when givin it a bit of a spanking, like hard acceleration, three-quarters to full throttle if that makes sense.
it hasn't been set up properly yet, i think it's running a bit rich, could the excess fuel cause the smoke at full chat??
Any other possible causes?
It does use a fair bit of oil. My driving is about 90% in and around town, stop start... could this cause higher oil consumption???
Any help/ideas would be great thanks

Sounds like worn rings or could still have oil in the system from the knackered turbo but thast wouldnt explain the oli cosumption if you have had everything else done it leads to that i would have thought. You would been better off posting theis in the technical answers section and you will get some pros answer your question.
Hope this helps

What chip is the car running, is it on a std chip/ std boost? have you ever had the injectors cleaned, as even as standard if the spray pattern is crap, you might well be getting borewash, where the neat fuel takes oil off the bore. Worth checking if you have had everything else rebuilt.

I put some injector cleaner through it.....
Only happens at like 5000rpm and above....

Car drives wicked, pulls nice and smooth all the way up....
Bottom end is original, but have been told there's no cause for concern there.
I'm in Exeter, where abouts are you mate?

Yes, lots! Although on a std car I would be pointing my finger at the bottom end on 94,000 miles! Borewash on a std car would be most unlikley, but not beyond the bounds of possibility if very badly set up.... How much oil are you using, as the YB does use oil, the handbook quotes upto 1 litre every 690 miles! Also what grade oil are you using?

i'm using about a litre every 600/700 miles, i thought the handbook quoted 1ltr every 1000 miles (haven't got an owners handbook)... so that could be a good sign!!
I'm using Valvoline 20/50 Race something....
