Have my own thoughts on this but what in your opinion is the best time to start an auction so you get more hits/£££?

Between 7 and 9 at night and to finish on Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
If you want to grab a bargain look for items finishing before lunch on Mondays and Tuesdays.

There was always the hint to post up on a Thursday night with a 10 day auction, that way it would be seen by viewers for 2 weekends... the only downside to that is that ebayers are impatient and want everything NOW! so 10 days is a long time to watch something.
Always check whats on tele the night it'll end too. If football's on or something, you are more than likely going to have half your watchers at the pub rather than infront of their computer sniping your item in the last few minutes!

agree, look to end it when people are most likely to be able to be at their machine.
Sunday evening I would think is best, and a short action will keep the buyer interested and more likely to stay with it than to bid on something that will end before yours.

Nah its not just luck mate. There are definate patterns when it comes to buying/selling. It really depends on what your selling and what market its aimed at. After months of research, ive found that the best time 'for me' is monday to thursday between 19:30-21:30. Friday and saturday nights have been rubbish for me (due to many people being out on the piss im sure).
