i got a traders policy when i was 23,it cost 1300 a year and i paid in instalments, could own and drive any car except lhd or american cars, the only pre requisite was that i declared any cosworth and it had a minimum of a cat 1 alarm and immob with cert fitted.thats cheaper than a horrid vectra!

its the maintenance of them... not the buying them or insuring them

I can and could spend up to 20k on a performance car but after insuring it and driving it I'd be fucked if I could maintain it

Cos there shonky old ford's mate.
Not a cos but the rs cos 2k
And we've got a pile of paper's here adding to about 6k in 3 years that's not including the work i've done or tyre's and shit. Oh and it's had a new floor inner and outer sill's that's not included neither.
Plus insurance, tax and fuel you really need to be prepared for the expense mate.
If it's an rs it is a money pit, i know of 1 frst that stand's the bloke at over 4.5k and he's only driven it once

im not fussed how much my car cost mate its gone now .. being 20years old there will be a fair few issus with it but depending on how its been looked after and treated, whats been replaced and what needs replacing.. the turbo could shit itself the day after you buy it due to oil contamination or you could develop a missfire etc.. there wicked cas mate but you have to have deep pockets to keep one on the road. my cossie had 18,000miles on the clcok from new and it spent most its life on stands having something fixed, replaced.. so just make sure you get one that you know and make sure you check it over with a fine comb.

Seriously....

95% of Sierra or Saphire Cosworths are hanging pieces of shit...despite what their owners and their rose tinted glasses think and when they go wrong they cost money and lots of it...

The badge on the back and the engine in the front mean they command respect for speed and ££££ for it...

Nothing about RS ownership is cheap mate, believe me. I`ve not long "upgraded" from a S2 turbo which i spent grands on getting right to a saph cos, and it`s the same crack. If you want to own a Ford RS anything get ready to part with pounds mate. It`s a way of life and not the easiest one

Frustrating bruv I know, insurance is what kept me away from owning a cossie in my 20's, bought my car when I reached 30 and the insurance premiums dropped drasticly

yes i did

In most cases The day you buy the cosworth will be the best of your life and also then day you sell it will also be the best day of your life.

They are old cars, they do break, and they are stupidly quick in the wrong hands.

If i was to buy another cossie, id make sure i have put aside at least half the value of the purchase price for repairs.

Then theres the running, like i said i was paying £200 per month for my escos, and it was my 3rd car, only used it on the odd sunday!!

Also you will become very friendly with your local petrol station.

If you have the money tho, then it will be fun!!

As for getting bored, it happens to us all, evein with 400bhp you will soon be bored and wanting more!

I found with the cosworth it wasnt the "speed" i loved it was the "turbo kick" when it came on boost.
You can get just as much a smile on your face from an rsturbo. infact that would be my advise, start of with one of these, and move to a cossie in a year or two!
