Bike engines, as good and powerful as they are suffer from the lack of torque - they need to be worked hard in a small car to get the most out of them.
But on the flip side, they are a scream, I've driven a Bike Engined Kit Car and it was immence, had a 1300 hyabusa engine in and went like absolute stink BUT the downside was the sheer noise of the engine screaming its bollocks off all the time
but it did beg to be screwed hard all the time

You probably wont IMO if the mini is stripped out etc.
I've been in a R1 powered bondug and that was quick, also been in a turbo'd hyasbussa bondug and thast thing was just mental, had to lean forward to stop the front wheel coming up.

All depends on the weight of the car, Needs to be as light as possible for a good result. Im building a kitcar that has a zx10 motor, should be good for 140bhp when done but will weight less than 400kgs.

Currently in bits again at the moment as im redoing all the engine mounts and building a new chain diff (lsd).

Í've been involved with a Smart roadster fitted with a GSXR1000 engine and although I have no idea on performance figures but it was a scream to drive!
Quick enough and with a soundtrack to die for.
Pulling away swiftly is no bother but you need proper clutchcontrol.

can't understand about people saying that bike engines have no torque. look at a car engine of a similar size, e.g. vauxhall agila 1000c - maximum torque 66 lb.ft, max power 64 bhp. they're not exactly fast, but a standard 1000cc bike engine is going to be a hell of a lot quicker than that with similar torque but double the power

150bhp bike endine will have 70-80ftlbs and do 14k
The lack of torque is overplayed by a lot of folk, if you gearthem both correctly then its not too much of an issue.
Bike engine tend to be fairly peaky tho, so they willalways feel more like driving a tuned crossflow than a pinto or whatever example you want to pick.
Bottom line is he will have about 150bhp in a 500kg mini so 300 per tonne and you will have 380bhp in a 1300kg car. Wont be far away

Surely a mini is a bit heavy for a 1000cc bike engine?
I've ridden a few modern 1000cc sports bikes and they are missiles but put someone on the back and it takes the edge off the performance.. it's gotta be a bit of a slug in a mini surely?
Granted a turbo'd hayabusa would be a different story but I can't imagine a gsxr 1k engine in a mini is going to set the world on fire!

For people that are worried about torque... the 30 year old 1256cc engine we pulled out was gutless. I doubt it made 50 bhp and naff all torque to match. New turbo R1 will have 140f/lb torque.
