my car has started smoking when i de-accelerate or let off the gas any ideas?

poss turbo, rings or maybe stem seals more info needed tbh colour of the smoke ect ect

sounds more like turbo.wot colour is smoke.take pipe off the turbo and have a feel of the shaft.see how much play is in it.a little bit is ok but anymore and u could be wanting a new one

stem seals and rings tend to do it more on boost,not when you back off.

that's not true in my experience

best way to see if its top end or not is to overrun down a big hill then blip the throttle at the end; if you get a big puff of blue smoke its an indication its top end related

it could be worn oil ring which doesnt always show on a comp test

need some more info on the car and engine, mileage etc

id be looking at turbo, one of my old fez turbos use to do it and the head etc had been done. i have a mint t3 if interested drop me a pm, its like new and yours for £150

had a play with the turbo and it seemed fine no play or very little, the smoke is blue and stinks of oil btw

if it a cvh i would say stem seals!are at least i woud try these first as they are cheap and easy to do!

Likely to be stem seals than other things, plus as said easy to do first, and cheap.

I'd be checking the oil return pipe IF your's is still on the T2 turbo!

right changed the oil return pipe will have a look c if she still smokes/leaks oil

still smoked so took the head off changed the head gasket and the valve stem oils seals and still in the process of putting it all bac together so will let you know of the outcome
