Default E60 530d vs 525d

What is the major difference between the two, obviously the 530d will me more pokey, but what about the engines themselves

maybe worth a search on a few sites that compare the two cars, se what the experts think lol.

go for the 535d twin turbo baby, like the 335d... erm i dont think there is much difference to be honest... just a bigger engine, more torque... more fuel lol... bmw got far too many engines to play with... i'd go for the 535d

118d uses less fuel than a 120d - so its cheap tax, insurance etc etc

thats why bmw do it

Nope - smaller CC for sure - Parkers car guide gives definate CC's bue the 3.0 is something like 2998cc and the 2.5 is 2496cc or therabouts

the 530, is a 3 L diesel
the 525 can be 2.5 or 3 L

530 d 03 to 05 is 218 bhp
05 onwards is 231 bhp

525 2.5 engine is 177 bhp
525 3.0 engine 04 to 06 175 bhp
06 onwards is 230 bhp

Looking at getting one, picking it up and driving it Stu's, i really like the E60, some people dont like the shape, but for up and down the motorways, kids, general car i rekon i will be pleased, looking at a 54 plate with about 60K on it.

I was wondering about the engines i remeber Stu saying the old 5 series 525 engine (E39) was different to the 530d, and basically was the old diesel engine found in the E36 325

I doubt it was the same engine...

the E36 had the M51 one in... in an E39 that was called a 525TDS rather than a 525d

Pretty sure the new 525d is a detuned 3.0.
