I didnt think you could get hotmail on the phone?
The only other thing you can do is set up a yahoo account, or googlemail account, and get your hotmail emails forwarded on to one of those?
Thrush may well be ableto advise differently though!

Hotmail works fine on the iPhone now. I have an account set up on there now
Just go to settings and tap email/calendars etc
Then tap OTHER
Enter the details and you will probably get a page telling you that you need a premium account blah blah. Just tap continue (or whatever the button is down the bottom) and it'll go search anyway. After a few seconds it should just be working.
Thats how easy it was to set up on mine, and it works fine

I setup a GoogleMail account and actually prefer it to Hotmail (Have used Hotmail for years and I rarely send EMails) as when I needed it Hotmail wouldn't work with the IPhone. My Hotmail is forwarded to Googlemail.

Gmail is far superior to Hotmail it's unreal. I stopped using my Hotmail the day I got a Gmail account 5 years ago! The only reason I now have an "@live.com" account is I needed a public email address for the apps I was building for iPhone users and didn't want my gmail address publicised....

Sorry Ria, not been on PF all day so didn't see this. Personally I'd just tick the one for Cydia, and leave INstaller and the Boot Logo's one unticked. Mainly cos Installer is shit and I've not found an app on it that I want (cos ever coder uses Cydia to host thier apps) and the boot logo's just replaces the Apple logo when you turn the phone on to a pineapple - which I thought looked shit!
Incase you don't know - Cydia is like the App Store, but for non-apple signed apps. This is where you download and install apps like the MMS app, and other tweaks, games, etc etc. And the reason the boot logo is replaced by a pineapple (if you tick that option)? Because the process of jailbreaking your iPhone is known as "PWNING" (from the original term of "owning") and this is shortened to PWN. Pwn is like Pine, and thus you PWN an APPLE (product). PWN + APPLE is a bit like Pineapple. Why? Don't ask me, I don't make this shit up

Ria - yes and yes. Cydia is a hosting application for non-Apple apps, most of which are free (some are charged) and you can browse, download and install directly from the Cydia app. And yes, you can still use the App Store as you did before. All Jailbreaking does is ADD the ability to do other things - it doesn't detract from the standard OS ![Grin](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
Westy - yes you can get to more free apps, but the main benefit is to open the OS up to use more of it's potential. Visual customization using themes and hacks - for example my springboard (the main interface) looks like this;
![](http://i39.tinypic.com/qn8mj5.jpg)
And the background behind the apps revolves through 8 different images (changes every 8 seconds)
But you can go mental and have it look completely different;
![](http://apcmag.com/images/apcapc/news2/5-iphone-winterboard.jpg)
A lot of it is litle tweeks and hacks - for example on mine I have two cut n paste apps that I couldn't live without now, and the SwirlyMMS app for picture messaging. Little hacks such as having the clock app on the springboard actually tell real time (you can see the second hand ticking!) and the weather app show the current temp and weather. My battery when charging shows what percentage it's at (10%, 15%, 20% etc). I have the events I entered into my calendar show on my lockscreen so I don't forget birthdays or whatever is planned for that day. And a video recording app aswel. As said a lot is "behind the scenes" hacks and tweeks, but it all helps to open up the potential the phone has![Grin](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

Ria - I don't have that theme - that's just a random I found on the net to show what you *can* do
999 - Right, I deleted my Hotmail account and did it again taking step by step pics in case it helps;
First go to Settings and tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars and then tap Add Account...
Tap OTHER
![](http://i44.tinypic.com/im2bgg.png)
And you should see this;
![](http://i44.tinypic.com/nwgdc3.png)
Then enter your hotmail/msn/live email address and password (and your name and what you want to call the mailbox) When you tap SAVE you should see the spinning wheel next to the words "Looking Up Account Information"
![](http://i39.tinypic.com/ke95z5.png)
When it's done (only takes 10-20 seconds usually) you should see 4 ticks next to the info you put in;
![](http://i40.tinypic.com/2mwffkp.png)
After that - well, thats it! That account is now live and working on my iPhone, and I didn't have to do anything else. To double check I went in and got it to fetch the new mail, sent one from the phone to my gmail account and then replied to it so I knew it was sending and receiving and it's working fine.
The only thing worth noting when using Hotmail on the iPhone is it is only ale to connect using pop3. Which means that when you read a mail on the iPhone, the iPhone marks it as read. However, if you log into your Hotmail on a computer, the message you read will NOT be marked as read. Same if you send an email using the iPhone - there won't be a sent mail in the SENT MAIL box on the web interface on your computer. Pop3 is not as good as IMAP when it comes to syncing webmail to a mailbox.

"Step Three
Once iTunes has finished updating your iPhone to the desired firmware you may launch QuickPwn.exe from the Pwnage folder on your desktop"
What is there to get stuck on? When iTunes has finished updating your iPhone, you close iTunes and open the QuickPwn program from the folder on your desktop. "IT" is supposed to do anything here - you are
![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
Or are you saying iTunes did not update your iPhone to the desired firmware?
What firmware are you on? If you are already on 2.2.1, all you need do is step 2 - do the SHIFT + RESTORE and choose the custom ISPW firmware you should have downloaded from the link on the site and let iTunes restore your phone. Then you close iTunes and run the QuickPwn program to jailbreak it. If you are NOT on 2.2.1 you need to do a normal firmware upgrade first (in iTunes) and THEN do step 2 (the SHIFT + RESTORE and choose the custom ISPW firmware)

Right, okay, bit different to mine, but should still be doable...
You want to click POP cos Hotmail doesn't support IMAP
Right, it should look like this;
![](http://i39.tinypic.com/xd5vkn.png)
where the writing is red, fill in these details with your name, email address and password. Pay special attention to HOST NAME and SMTP You need to input what you see in the pic. Now, this depends on what your email address. Mine is a "@live.com" address, so my Host name is "pop3.live.com" and SMTP is "smtp.live.com"
Here is a list of HOST NAME and SMTP details depending on what your email address is;
If your email address is "@live.com"
HOST NAME - pop3.live.com
SMTP - smtp.live.com
If your email address is "@hotmail.com"
HOST NAME - pop3.hotmail.com
SMTP - smtp.hotmail.com
If your email address is "@hotmail.co.uk"
HOST NAME - pop3.hotmail.co.uk
SMTP - smtp.hotmail.co.uk

Ria - ![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
Right, First create a new folder on your desktop. Call it "QuickPwn". Then you want to right click and SAVE these following files
http://foskarulla.com/QuickPwn-225-2.zip
http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite....1_Restore.ipsw
Next, go to that folder and extract QuickPwn-225-2.zip file into that folder.
Next, open itunes and connect your phone. DO A SYNC! this will create you a backup file that you can use later.
If you are already on firmware 2.2.1, don't bother doing an update. Instead, hold SHIFT and click the RESTORE button. A window will open asking to look for an ISPW file. The one you want is in the QuickPwn folder on your desktop. Navigate there and select the file called iPhone1,2_2.2.1_5H11_Restore.ipsw
Let iTunes do the full restore. This will take a while. When it is done DON'T ACTIVATE THE PHONE or do anything else iTunes tells you to. Just close iTunes (leave the phone plugged in)
Then go to the QuickPwn folder and run the QuickPwn.exe you extracted into the QuickPwn folder. Follow the instructions to the letter!
When it asks you to browse for the ISPW file, this is the same ISPW file (iPhone1,2_2.2.1_5H11_Restore.ipsw) you used earlier - in the QuickPwn folder
When you get to the bit about what things to tick, tick CYDIA but don't bother ticking Replace Boot Logo's or Installer (you can tick installer if you want, it hosts other apps, but there aren't many on there and I've never used any of them, as they are mostly on Cydia)
Step ten is the hardest - you need to follow what it tells you to do to the letter
Once you've done that, let the phone fully reboot, then open iTunes again. It should detect the phone and ask you to activate it. You should get an option of setting it up as a new phone or something or other to continue it as it was - choose the latter. This will give you all the apps you already had, your music, your contacts, your text messages, your email and network settings etc will all be automatically reinstalled. This is why it's important to do a sync before starting the process!
After that it should all be done - everything should be the same except that it should also be jailbroken! If you see the Cydia app on the springboard then you know it's jailbroken!
Then you can come bother me with more questions about what you should do with this new found freedom
