Default Aftermarket gauses - reading off with current draw

I ordered some gauges online. They sell millions of these.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SMOKED-GAUGE-OIL-PRESSURE-TEMP-BOOST-WATER-VOLTAGE_W0QQitemZ180327892530QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK _CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item180327892 530&_trksid=p32 86.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A4|65%3A16|39%3A1|240%3A13 18

Apart from me not actually liking them... when I fire up the engine the oil pressure reads 2 bar after 5 minutes. 3 bar initially. Fine. Then it warms up and goes to 1.5 bar. If I turn on the lights or turn on the blower motor they dip down and read nothing.

I triple checked the installation. My charging system is fully functional. Installed as their wiring diagram says. Triple checked....

What causes a resistance circuit to be affected by current draw? Do Sierras work better with mechanical gauges? something weird in the dash wiring?

Definitely sounds like a wiring problem from your description... I had an air fuel gauge fitted to an old car and when the blowers were on 1, 2 or 3 the gauge worked perfectly but when I switched to top setting 4 the gauge cut out. I assumed that I'd wired it to the temperature control as setting 4 was the windscreen one and it automatically went to high heat when that was activated.

Offtopic a wee bit, but thats pretty low oil pressure... do Cossies run that level normally?? My Scoob will see 7bar+ from a cold start, levelling out to about 6bar when driving up to temperature and warm idle will sit around 2bar.

Cheers,
Grant

This is on my 2.3 Lima powered Merkur XR4Ti. Normal oil pressure is 2.7 bar to 4 psi at 2000 rpm warm. I'm just idling it.

What did you do to solve the high heat problem?

Yeah, I'm full of typos tonight. My laptop is in a weird spot this evening. Too much stuff on my desk. so I'm typing from a weird and angle and not paying attention.

4 BAR I meant...

Relay is internal. I tried running them off separate relay right from the battery. No luck. They still have the drop to zero when the fan or lights come on.
