Default Debt collection....

Bit of advice really...

Bought my house in September last year. no i have still not moved in yet as currently renovating the thing. But few days ago i had a letter from Orange stating the previous owner (well the guy as him and his mrs split), that he owed them £150 for unpaid bill and they are passing them to debt collectors etc.

Now i was going to sort it this weekend, but found out today old dear has wrote them a letter back and sent all the stuff back of with it, so now i do not have any details to ring them! . So do you think its a case of sit and wait and hopefully it will now sort itself out? Or am i likly to have more bother down the road with this?

Unfortunatley i do not have any contact details for the previous owners.

Credit references work against the debtor, not the address.

If the letter clearly explained the circumstances then you shouldn't have any problems at all.

I bought my house 2 years ago and had the same issues with the previous owner. Just returned letters as you did, or rang companys and it was all ok. Never had any visitors etc.

If you cant get in touch with them just sit and wait for the bailiffs to come show them proof of id and that your not the debtor and that will be the last you hear.

That how it used to work when i was a bailiff

if thats the case how come we had problems with being unable to even rent a tv when we bought our first house that had been a repossesion?
the house is marked and it takes lots of letter writing to finally sort out.

Before passing over to a debt collectors they would do a credit check, land reg etc and see by that he was not there and then try and trace him from the info they obtain. Being a phone bill its prob just a threat and they would write it off as it would cost more to pursue it than it was worth.
