Just got some for my Escort van.

Have noticed a difference, especially on low beam. The light is whiter and seems to stretch further in front than the old ones. High beam doesn't seem a lot different though.

I am getting flashed by other cars now and again, which never happened before, so I guess from that they work.

Used these on various cars, all with excellent results.
As said main is not so much better compared with improvement on dip, that's why I link my dip so it stays on on main beam as well, makes a massive difference.
I would at the very least beef up the earth wire to the lights, by taking a wire direct from inner spot light spade connector straight to earth, but even better to fit relays, I have two in EACH headlight, one dip one main beam, and of course power wire and better earth straight from battery, massive difference again.

I went straight for HID on a car, the extreme are so close on dip it's untrue, but main beam on extreme makes hid main beam look like sidelights, waste of £85 really.

Interestingly, just done some stuff on HID in cars with projector style lights, as everyone insists that only these are suitable, net result was piss poor performance on HID, vast improvement on H4 extreme, prior to fitting the projector lights they were also best on extreme in std lights.

Hellfrauds Super Brilliance and Extreme Brilliance are not that bad, and pretty good value when on a BOGOF

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...5263_langId_-1

Remember though that old bulbs do "yellow" a bit so new bulbs exactly the same as the old one may appear better anyway.

All the mot states is about pattern colour and output, it could be candle in there and still pass if ut meets above.
I do think HID would be much better in some, my ones brighter with hid but all over the place, and I even cleaned the inside of the lenses too, fitted some hid look led bulbs but they really were crap!!

the lens is very important with hids, particularly those with the solenoid dip/main action

No can leave them in, not part of the test the ACTUAL source of the light, checked with my mot man, who is 100% down the line, looked in book or words with him, nothing mentioned other than above.
I am curious, so going to buy another set of 5000K solenoid ones H4-4, and fine tune the bulb positions in a spare light in me garage later in the year, as I am 100% sure it is the actual position that is causing most of the probs, particularly the horizontal alignment.

Im a MOT tester and as long as you have your beam with kickoff and is within range height wise they will be ok for MOT....

Hi Lawnsy,
I take it continental dip is not allowed, ie not cut off left and up, just a flat cut off on dip, this not going to pass is it ?

I would be interested to see some pics of these bulbs in action. Say with one in a one headlight and a standard bulb in the other.

Anyone got any pics?

No i would class this as having no headlight pattern in normal car headlamps but there is different rules for the old round h/lamps..

I tested a 206gti a few weeks back and the offside headlamp had the kick to the right instead of the left as it had a left hand drive headlamp in and the owner insisted it was just the bulb in upside down....

Like Tabs said, first thing I would do is check how much power you are getting currently at your headlights.
You might be surprised wiith the old wiring now that you might be down substantially on what should be standard. If you take feed from battery like he says I bet even standard bulbs will look a lot brighter......and then try out the uprated ones.
When Auto Express do these tests they use a test rig that gives them proper voltage
