Ive just sold something on ebay for £795 but the guy who won it is overseas and wants to pay by paypal....he said he will pay the charges and wants to know much they would be on this amount...does anyone know how much they take....is it a percentage and does it differ depending how much is spent??
How much would i be looking to pay on this please?

Around 3-4% I'd just whop 4% on top. End of.

However, be VERY careful. In reality, I wouldn't actually do it. Too much chance of a chargeback I reckon. I've just had someone enquire about one of my items and I have told him bank transfer or he doesn't buy it, simple as that.

Be careful mate, theres alot of con artists buying from overseas. I hate seeing anyone getting screwed over. Payal will take 4% from the £795 so about £40 roughly.

On such a big amount i would defo prefer bank transfer

BTW it's also much cheaper for him to pay by bank transfer,so why would he want to pay by PayPal

cheers for the info people.....i know 2 ppl that have just been had on paypal too..maybe i'll insist on bank transfer then...i take it this is 100% safe giving bank details to a stranger??

If he sends it as 'money owed' from the personal section, then he can choose to pay the fee's at his end when he sends the money.

Theres a common misconception. Drawing the money out does NOTHING. If there is a chargeback it will turn into a debt which Paypal will use normal recovery methods to get back if need be.

circa £30 from most uk banks to overseas; it will be similar coming into the UK

100% correct! My mate got done like this from a guy in Europe a couple of years ago, he sold a mobile phone for £200, withdrew the money and actually spent the cash it, but a week after the transaction had taken place he was £-200 in his paypal account and was threatened with debt collection agencies unless he brought his balance into credit.

Balance transfer is the safest way (for you) although not everyone is a con man, 4 weeks ago i sold a stroker kit to a guy in germany for £900 and he paid via paypal, i posted it out to him, he received it ok, but its always a risk for the seller.

More then 40 Pounds seems much for a bank transfer,here in Holland it costs about 12 pounds for a transfer to non euro countries and i believe to countries who use the euro it's free of charges

-you cannot refuse a paypal payment without being reported,
saying that a charge back would be a -BIG PROBLEM FOR YOU.AND TEMPTING FROM OVERSEAS!!!------

see what im getting at????
That way you have a record of tracking for a none existing item that can be used as a sold item!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!--no arguments you signed for it!!!!!!!-
