Dojj said public bins. I assume he means the ones in the street, not the one you put out yourself and he is right in what he says.

The bin men don't empty those bins, at our council, we do (different department). When they get emptied, it's obvious by looking into the open bag if people have been putting household rubbish, or shops have been putting trade waste into them. We quite often take mail or hundreds of the local paper for example as evidence for possible prosecutions. A warning letter normally suffices though.

i wont hear a bad thing about the bin men.

They work for shit money everyday all day,emptying our crap, which ranges from waste food to dog shit, they work in the rain and hot sun.

They, if asked nicely, will remove a lot of other thing aswell as bin shite, i know ive asked them and glady gave then ALL, maybe 6 odd bin men a good drink for it.

You woudnt like it they stopped emptying bins for a couple of weeks and tell me would you want thier job, i know i wouldnt.

Would you empty bins for £7.00 odd an hour ??
would you want a pile of waste outside your house for 2 weeks, rat infested?

My jobs stressfull, I work in the pissing rain and blazing sun (and the freezing snow, although it seems bin men don't ) and get mucky all day long, but you don't see me turning up to a car and saying "sorry luv, can't change your screen today as it's parked more than the required amount of inches from the kerb" or some other drivel do you?

I find that hard to believe as there's supposed to be a national agreement or something. Now the JEQ has been enforced, the bin men are earning about £20K including their overtime. They probably work and average of 30hours even though they are paid 40+. Their normal hourly rate is just short of £10, but if you work it out based on the hours they do, it's somewhat more.
Before the JEQ, the loaders were on £1.69 per year less than I was as a HGV driver and all they had to do was turn up to work pissed, shift a few black bags and go home early every day.

Our bin men don't touch dog shit. That's my department. Bin men don't exactly empty bins either, they throw black bags (already tied and sealed) into the back of the wagon, or they push a wheelie bin a few feet and let the wagon do all the work. They don't even get bloody dirty.

Those lazy bastards wouldn't want my job. We had one on our side for a week when he fucked his bin wagon through incompetance and he was moaning like a bitch to his supervisor that doing our work (litter picking all verges on main roads, emptying public bins and dog bins by hand) was demeaning and basically beneath him.

The bin men can drive gritters, but only at weekends here. They're not allowed to do it during their normal working hours, weekday nights or overnights. We however do cover it 24/7.
