Default How long should a system update take on the PS3??

Been trying to connect my PS3 online but it says I need to do a system update.

I've tried doing it a few times now but it keeps timing out.

Has anyone else had this before ??

I keep getting this error message.

An error occurred during the download operation.
A connection to the server cannot be established.

Any ideas what's up?

never have any problems updating mine, the time depends on how big the file update is, do you know what version you are downloading

Didn't know there was an update due unless it's the first time you've had your PS3 online?
It's usually a pretty good connection if your broadband/router is half decent and updates fairly quickly and reliably.

We have a BT homehub is that the Routor??

If so it's wireless and Scott connected the PS3 to it when he did the initial set up

Claire - If you've got the BT hub just pull out the power plug on the back.. Then plug it back in after 5seconds or so...

The router will then re-start. Light by light they will go from flashing orange to green. Make sure the 3 are green then try again.

My BT HomeHub gets clogged up sometimes and this sorts it everytime

I find the PS3 is very slow at downloading anything via wireless. I would go to the playstation website, download the update be it on usb stick or cd as it will be a lot quicker. It took 2hours to download the killzone 2 demo (1.4GB) where the Halo wars demo (same size) is going a lot quicker.
