Default Sun roof plate, Carbon Fibre, how thick?

currently have a steel sheet over my sunroof

but now thinking alloy or carbon fibre

but what thickness should the Carbon fibre be?

just a couple of layers with a layer of foam inbetween

i have just had a complete roof skin done and im surprised just how strong it is

as long as you secure it properly then i cannot see if it matters.

some dodgy bloke in a vest told me, 1mm (which is Ł80) would flap

go 2mm or 3mm then, but it does sound a lot for the piece needed.

would alloy be better cost wise as it cannot be THAT much lighter that it means paying a lot more for the carbon.

have a word with Jaycos, see what he can do with the CF sheet price.

now i need to find this jaycos, and hope he can better the price of the Dodgy bloke above

alloy is more cost affective

but carbon is more bling

Steve, have you seen the cf look a like door panels on ebay, could ask them for a sheet for the roof, be a lot cheaper.

saves trying to ask some dodgy bloke in a vest all the time.

I can't see it flapping if it is secured all round and sealed so air cannot get underneath it. If it does flap then just get a thin strip of alloy (about 1" wide) and bond it to the length of the carbon from inside the car.

I used a sheet of thin alloy for mine, not sure what thickness it was though!

i have some of that, and its really flimsy

it would be bolted and sealed so no air/water can get in

like the idea of brasing underneath
