Default Vectra GSI/SRI 2.5 v6

Anyone got any info on em...

Just looking at them to replace the old mans ageing 1.8lx and they seem not bad value for money for what they are and they mileages and you can get late year ones....

Just really interested in engine reliability as the rest of the stuff has proven to be reliable on the 1.8 and they're basically the same car.

(also purely as a side thought, anyone know much about the later shape 3.2V6 GSi like the old bill use)

so you managed to avoid the shit 2.2 petrols eh!!! good lad.

the gsi's are mint and a really nice on will always be a good car.

i got out bid on a x plate gsi hb 80k warrented with full history 2 owners and a recent service, tyres, and cam belt kit, it did 1600 quid and i was fooked off tbh as i tried to bid and somehow lost it.

the 3.2 gsi's are quite cheep now and are a mint car, my mrs has a very late one its a 05 05 and the best one she could find and direct out of vauxhall.
if you buy a good cheep 3.2 gsi it will always be a sought after nice car and with a few irmscher badges and a grill they look the part, they don't look as sporty as a vectra bgsi but you can get the irmscher stuff for them and then they become a proper gsi. they also drive so well, very relaxed and comfy and cruise all day long no probs, hers came from glasgow and i did glasgow to chester in 2 and a half hrs and it felt great on the motorway.

not bad motors really although beware of gsi's (2.5 ones)that have had a vx-pro engine fitted as they are shit and are prone to throwing the odd rod out of the block!

i've had 2 vectra's, the 2.0l sri and a 2.5v6 sport. the v6 has a bad flat spot between 2500 and 3500rpm, you'd need to fit a 3.8 bar fuel pressure regulator to get rid of this. the 2.0l was actually a lot better than the v6 and we got a lot more miles to a tank.

the v6 bhp is roughly 167bhp standard, then if you get the gsi version your looking at 192bhp.

0-60 is 8.0 secs for a standard v6 gsi, and 9 secs for a standard 2.0l, my 2.0l was doing a 0-60 in the same time as a gsi
hope that helps.

Sounds interesting peeps..

Yeh stayed clear of the the 2.2's... Ł1600 quid for a B shape GSi is peanuts.. I missed one retail this week for Ł2200...he then offered me a 2.2 SRi... he sounded gutted when I said no thianks. I am hoping to look at one at Ł2400..and maybe get somet off it if its any good.... anything else seems to be a million pounds... or a million miles..

Got a low mileage late plate SRi to look at for the old man in the week but I do fancy a 3.2 to potter about in for 12 months... for 4k you seem to be able to get a really good 53plate car with less than 50k... I hate the wheels tho!

Cheers... keep em coming.

The V6's are extremely reliable if looked after. Ive had a few V6 vectras and omega's. Obviously check that the cambelts been done (the full kit with tensioners and water pump) as that can be very expensive to do the job. Also check when the auxillery belt and tensioner was last changed as if that fails it can knock the cambelt off too.

Check the heat exchanger (oil cooler). Check for mayo in the header tank for this. Oil cooler failure on these are often mistaken for head gasket failure, when in actual fact the head gaskets are very good on these and rarely let go. Look for the slightest trace of oil in there as it can be disguised easily by flushing and all of a sudden fill the header tank again after a few miles. Again, a pig of a job the oil cooler as it sits right in between the heads, aswell as being pretty costly.

Other than that, you cant go far wrong really. Very underated cars in my opinion and can actually be quite economical on a run. I got 50 mpg out of my V6 vectra Sri down to heathrow and back at a steady 75-80, and could see 30 easily enough just knocking around in it. Obviously stick the foot down and that will soon go down to low 20's though.

i know the car and its got a rattly donkey, i would of bought it as it was a 2 grand car but i can't be arsed doing problems at the mo.

its broughton garage which is opposite bae chester.

tbh 4 grand could get you a 05 if the miles are say 70 ish.

as said if you irmscher them up with a gsi on the rear aswell as irmscher boot badge and a front grill and proper irmscher rear spoiler they look like a proper gsi, also the 19" wheels look better than standard 3.2 gsi's.
some plod cars have sxi alloys on them even though they are proper gsi's, then vauxhall put the gsi alloys on signums and elegances and some other model veccy and it spoiled them.
remember this though the car can do 170 when driven by a copper and they don't scream look at me, i have sold one to a fella who got sick of getting tugged in his year old wrc blue sti and wanted fast discreet muscle which the gsi 3.2 is.

Only thing is with people with any V6 engined car always seem to think they're the fastest thing on the road/the bollocks! V6's sound awful! Its like a "uuuuuung!" noise! Get a straight 6 if you have to! Sound SO much better!

Any boy racer with a sporty exhaust thinks that too, and any scooby driver untill her gets chewed up by a cossy... but not on the twisties ( pmsl )

More to the point I didn't mention buying one for the noise ??????? but erm, yeh- thanks for the input on that one.
