walked over the severn bridge today
the old suspension bridge, the nice one.
here's a few pics. sorry they're crap quality, taken on a phone. would like to go back one day with a better camera in better weather for some more. dead easy to get to, just walk along the footpath out of the severn view services on the english side of the m48, across the top of the toll station and down on to the bridge
view from the toll station
view of the shore from the beginning of the bridge. check out the different layers of rock in the 'cliff' side. fascinating.
they had to build the pylons on a couple of islands to get the span of the cables, the river is so wide
sad that so many people died in relatively modern times building such a structure. you would hope that it would not happen now (in a developed country anyway)
the beginning (or is it the end?) of one of the main suspension cables
one of the vertical suspending cables that comes of the main cables and supports the road platform. complete with power wire and anti-vibration dog bone things
one of the suspension points of the road platform
i did think about climbing up a bit to get some better pics, but though better of it after reading this notice
one of the main columns
the view from the middle of the proper old bridge of the new bridge that is not half as impressive
the whole bridge from the bank on the english side
and finally the view when driving across having shelled out £10.90

Is it the severn bridge that they have fitted like sound detectors onto the clables, and when traffic is busy on it the detectors picks up the sound of small strands of cable snapping? Or was that another bridge?

i was in lane 3 and i was on my way to cardigan bay, so not i a rush and decided not to be a cunt and move over early, so at the 600 yard marker i did just that. i could see the traffic in the middle lane begin to brake, so was off throttle with light brake pressure. then the mong in front of the car infront of me wasnt paying attension and fucking dropped anchor...
matey in front in his zafira said he only just stopped.... and i used him as a brake
must have hit him at about 10mph id say. not a hard hit really but my van is fucked. it snapped a hose of the ps pump so i couldnt drive it on. had to get recoverd. obv done the bumper/bonnet/lights and intercooler too lol.
ah well shit happens. im doing about 50k+ miles a year, so something is inevitable really
the chap in the other car was fine and a good bloke, it was a hire car so he wasnt bothered tbh i gave him a ring about 5pm last night to make sure everything was sorted his end and it was, so all good.
