Top Speed of My Cosworth
What is the likely top speed of my car in the confines of brunters. Most of you know the spec of mine - its been well documented on here
455 bhp
235/40/17 tyres
who has the calculations to work it out? I will pm Rod of course as he is top speed guru but would like to see what others out there think please

not sure, but they will need to know what gear box ratios are you using and what rev limit?

Standard T5 box and will have to check with Mark what rev limit he would be happy for me to use. Will have to be 7.5k rpm at least i would think

a mk2 escort with a proven 400bhp + nos will do 173mph with 2 beefcakes in it. i reckon you would see around 175 if MAD horses are all they're cracked up to be (the area under the curve being important, not just the peak figure
you will not get to the rev limit

you could argue who cares what it'll do on the road because it's illegal and you would be stupid to do it..........

I think when i asked Rod to work mine out he said around 170-174mph depending on how late you brake. So at a guess for yours Rich about the same if not a couple mph higher.

It would take 2 x beefcakes to keep a MK2 escort in contact with planet earth at 170+Mph!!!

174,i would say you would need nearer 500bhp to nudge 178-180 and a true 500+ to go over 180 imo.

Rainbird managed over 180 with c400 at the wheels at AVA - estimated to be 450bhp. I am happy to be told that the car made more on the runway due to lower ACT's but thats just what it made on the rollers and what it made down the runway.
I loved that motor
SO I would say you would be in the higher 170's.

Whats it geared for?
If its geared too long that could hinder you getting to the point in the revs you need to be at.
175 though I reckon if everything is sorted.

Your gearing allows for 186mph.
I don't think you have solid lifters? If not, you will get valve float, which will restrict power at high sustained rpm, so I will say 175mph, +/- 2mph depending on weather conditions
.

Perfect gearing, perfect conditions and an understanding of how to improve the drag factor
.
