it's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it

and, unless you are minted and don't know what money is worth, it's going to stay in his little shed in it's little carcoon until the next time it needs an mot

now, if it was a nice collectable car that's vaule is going to appreciate in the current climate when you can buy it cheap and pack it up for a rainy day in 20 years time, that's another matter

don't forget that you may have to fill it wil 4 star or get the bits sorted on it as it's been standing for so long

or perhaps it's mike brewer floggin it after his mates been around it with some polish and a tin of hammerite

It's like wrestling Chip, Andre the Giant would fetch £150'000 to the right person, but Hulk Hogan £300'000, maybe more considering he's still alive.

he wants a price, so he's got to figure out what he's willing to pay not

the other guy is forcing his hand, or attempting to, by asking him to offer more than £35k, which sounds like more than he's willing to pay, hence people telling him not to bother

i'm glad to have enlightened you to the way that prices are sometimes set

amazing the things you can learn on the internet ain't it

IMHO the first hot hatch was the radford mini cooper in the 60s

The golf was the first mass market one though that really started the whole craze properly.

Yes radford did a hatch version, hence I specifically mentioned the radford bit as I knew if I called a mini cooper itself a hot hatch (which of course it is in every way that actually matters, ie a cheap and accessable practical everyday car with performance) some wally would start rattling on about the mini not being a hatchback and so it has no claim on the hothatch movement which it BLATANTLY laid the groundwork for.

By that line of mongtastic reasoning you could then say the escort mk1/mk2 laid those same foundations starting with the gt variants and the twin cam in 1968 despite it being a saloon, its still small hatch sized and eventually turned into a hatch.

But no-one says that either

I think the go faster escorts did contribute to the market readiness for people to accept the golf gti yes mate.

I dont see anything mongtastic about that at all.

The Mong thing is purely a homage to DaveEscos.

Now he didnt have to shove things up his ass or show us a shit to be funny!

I cant help it if people will say it would be a shame to replace a stock duratec v6 with a 500bhp YB ... mong is as mong does

I can appreciate what they are, but golf's, especially old ones do nothing for me at all. Its just impossible to price really, as you say theres probably no other one like it.

The only way it will find its 'true' value is if two or more people take a real shine to it, and of course want it badly, then a bidding war will start to obsene amounts, like the £35k you mentioned.

If money was no object to me, id buy it for £35k just for fun......then strip it out, bang a vr6 engine in it, brush paint it bogey green, put M3 mirrors on it, then post a project thread on the VW forums.

Ford had already been building practical performance models of their cars when VW was still mainly selling the 1930's designed 20 bhp beetle...

I find it quite funny that VW folks always claim that they've build the first hot hatch. The fact that they have to stress the "hatch" part so much already shows, what a poor title this actually is. Looking at it from a different angle you could say they only really started building quick cars when hatchbacks were already popular, so they failed to do so all the decades before.

To be fair to VW they only ever intended to produce a small amount of the GTi but its sales were so massive they realised what an untapped market they had found. I dont think they claim to have invented anything as a company, perhaps by some of their more deluded followers...and we all know every brand has its blinkered fools

I'd personally LOVE to see the car in question

So I am a Mong all because I prefer the V6? I personally would never build a YB engine for a V6 Monde. I would sell the 500bhp YB engine I had and use all the parts from Noble to tune the Duratec engine. And because of this I am a mong, sure thing.

What has Dave got to do with any of this? You have randomly used his name in what I feel is a sad attempt to get everyone to agree with you. Dave was funny, yet completely irrelevant to this discussion, a bit like me and my arse. What has me being funny or shoving things up my arse got to do with this or the last thread? Nothing, yet on both occasions you seen fit to use it, as you clearly couldn't argue what we were initially discussing as you had no valid points to argue and discuss.

Putting me aside, you've now in this thread claimed what Chip said is 'Mong' when in actual fact he made you look an idiot, when the Mini in question was a hatch.

Do us all a favour, and stop with the calling people a mongoloid etc, as the only mongoloid here is you.

Benni.

He's only been off the forum for nearly two years. I think someone would of liked to get a little closer to Dave than he is letting on. My 'Gay Detector' has smoke coming out the back of it.

How is Cunt more polite than Mong? I'd have to disagree. Your problem is you think you are my hero Roy Chubby Brown; who is genuinely funny. Not like you who has to offend people on the internet. Roy has played many gigs over many years, and has a massive fan base. You know I once met Roy... You see where this is going? Roy, my hero, has fuck all to do with any of this, just like Dave.
