Default 1.4 corsa vs rst

how fast are they? just had a play with a corsa and he asked what mine was, i said rs turbo and he said 1.4, but he was all over me in 1st, 2nd and then i pulled away in third. then i backed off (i like my license), was he lying? are they that quick or is my rs shit slow?

i dunno, i dont play up usually, and i've only had my rs a few months.

sorry for the blonde questions, but mine felt quick until i had a 1.4 corsa on my arse

I think he's lying or had some engine mods done to it.
There nippy but shouldnt be sitting on ya arse end like that in standard form atleast.
He's probably had a 2 litre redtop droppped into it and its still registered as 1.4.
Atleast thats what my mate did with his but he's an idiot.

Sounds like its got a redtop in it then.
My mates old corsa van didnt really look anything special but it had a 180bhp redtop lump under the bonnet.
Note the redbull can for a coil

Those engine are 150bhp standard anyway.
Whats your RST running?

1.4 corsa is slow, so i dout it was a 1.4

Even with a 2.0 redtop its just about the same bhp as a standard rst? maybe abit more but not much

If your RS is pretty much standard, i would expect one to stay somewhere near off the mark, some of them go pretty well for a 1.4, if yours is standard and that was a red top, he would of handed your ass to you on a plate i would imagine, however, your car is still far, far cooler!

I thought the red top vaux engines were the crap ones like the V6 vaux engines, or am I getting my vaux engines mixed up ?
Heard a lot about LET something or other, not really into vaux engines apart from J series.

Nah Tab's, Red tops are the 2.0 16v XE's, 150 (or 156 with coscast head)bhp, very strong, well loved engine and used alot in rallying!

i have absolutely no idea when my engine was last set up i rescued it from a driveway last year, and it had a 2005 tax disk with it, that should give you some idea .

i fitted the chip and polished head, and it was a 100% improvement on what it was before, maybe i'll look into getting it setup. i'm still confused then, so if it were a red top he should've handed my ass to me, but if it a 1.4 he shouldn't have been so quick! haha, still confused

The important thing is i won

A standard 1.4 wouldn't pull ya foreskin back!. If it was a redtop then it would defo have been quicker than a near standard RST.
My Nova redtop was quicker than my near 200 bhp escort!

find their way into loads of Fords too...

the coscast heads don't make any more power, they were just fitted to the early 16v GTEs that didn't have a cat fitted

A std RST isn't a 'quick' car these days, the corsa will weigh less, think the old 1.4's have around 90bhp, probably would keep up with you to 35-40mph anyway.

i built a nova for a mate with a standard reptop 2.0 and it ran a 13.9 1/4 mile up santa pod and a mate of mine used to have a 1.4 sport corsa that was quite quick round the streets but suffered at around 90 upwards

what colour was it btw? if it had gsi alloys & met green my 1st guess is that it was a 1.6gsi.

failing that id say it had a valver in tbh. most will say they are only small engines just to piss on you & make you look like a coont.lol

There's loads of mk2 escorts with them round here!

tbh thats what i was thinking; and i'm still glad it was a scalp, even if it was a 1.4 it was silver, boggo bumpers with woodscrews into the wings (seriously) and that back can and the three spokes.

mines got a double capacity intercooler on it too which i forgot to mention i dunno how much difference they make.
the spec of mine then:
ported + polished head
turbosystems chip
bailey breather
double capacity intercooler
K&n filter in an airbox
b&m quickshift
vibratechnics gearbox mounts (the dash rattle on m'way is a coont )

thats all i can think of.

its no shrinking violet, just not the fastest thing either, you can see why i was abit confused

20bhp more, no lag, better spread of torque, and less weight.

A redtop will walk all over a standard RST.

A 1.4 shouldnt though so either he lied or the RST in question is fucked, lol

IME the vauxhall scene has a lot more sleepers in it that the ford one.

They seem to enjoy playing down their cars and relying on results rather than exagerating the numbers ford scene stylee

Last years TOTB team for example, all claimed 300bhp, and at least one of them was proven over 500bhp

even worse was being beaten every day by a meastro turbo on the way to work.... then with all the mods done to mine he would still beat me due to mine spinning the wheels..

my rst has around 180bhp maybe a touch more and in 1st and 2nd it just spins the wheels. so if i was to race a 1.4 corsa it prob would be up behind me untill it grips!!!

uve confused me,how can u race and not drive the shit out of it,is that not a contradiction
as i said its obv not goin as good as it should if your worrying about 1.4 corsas,u should be chasing uk spec scoobies with that spec not trying to hold off corsa's

I assume you have an escort ?? and standard ??.... don’t forget a standard Escort and Fiesta are 130ish bhp. By today standards a 1.4 would easily keep up! Combine this with 20 year old technology and a knackered engine (internals) you’re looking at an old car with little power (No offense). Even moded RST's are not designed to handle the power they spin, handle crap etc. Even granny cars can push RST's these days...(but then again the car is 20 years old)
Even if he did ‘mod’ the Corsa how much MORE power are you going to gain from a naturally aspirated engine 10, 15 maybe 20 bhp?? at BEST
I would say the Corsa was standard and even in higher gears pulling away would not be easy.
People have to remember standard cars TODAY are better build , put power down with electronics... 130bhp is not much at all these days
