They seem to only use three colours now, always on the lookout for untaxed driven cars, my best find was 7 years out of date, owned by a schoolteacher.

No chace of that these days with DVLA database + ANPR
ANPR does not recognise plates without correct spacing, but does not alert when it can't read either, so just mispace your plate and your ok.
There is talk of discs with a chip inside them, so that when out of date it pierces a ink sachet and blots out the disc.

Im sure iv'e seen on interceptors that ANPR does trigger if it cant read the plate properly
