Default Escort ignition lock help needed

on a mk6 Escort van the chipped key type the barrel has worn so is a pain in the backside to turn most of time!

so was told to go to breakers and get a barrel and key and keep the old key near sensor and all will be well is the above possible or more of the good old pub talk etc!

its true yes, it is the cheapest way, but you will have to tape up your old key or the chip inside the ring of the receiver.

the PATS system will work as long as the key is close, so as said, keep it on the key ring.

I've tried this on my cab and it doesn't work for me. I only got 1 chipped key with the cab and it was worn smooth, so I got another (unchipped) key cut and tried it holding the original chipped key up against the steering cowling, but it doesn't deactivate the immobiliser. Maybe i'm just doing it wrong.

potentially doing this will void your insurance.

when vehicles are "grouped" for insrance, all std security is taken into account...removing or rendering one useless can cause issues should it be stolen

Have you tried a new key? Had this problem with my bird's old mk3 fiesta. Got a new key cut and programmed and it worked perfectley!

If you are carefull you can extract the chip and put it in the new key no problem.
