hi guys I'm looking for ideas/advice on what to do, i was made redundant before Christmas and have been looking for a job since then with no luck.
I'm thinking a change of career might be in order as manufacturing in my area is going downhill, everywhere I've been looking seems to be paying people off.
my job experience to date. I'm a time served turner, experience with manual lathes, vertical borers, etc.
worked in a small factory doing a wee bit of everything incl. cnc lathes/mills, welding, fitting and a lot of research and development work on projects.
i did 4 years in security part time (2 years as a supervisor)
in my last job i was primarily a sheet metal worker, but i spent a lot of my time working on on one off brackets and fixtures for taxi and van conversions. i also ended up being their auto spark wiring up tail-lifts and other electrical components into vans/minibuses.
any suggestions on a possible career change for me?
what industries are still busy?
any help is much appreciated

Thats actually a good shout - try all the Uni's in and around Glasgow. Wouldn't be that far to travel for you, and there is ALWAYS work (both research and run of the mill type stuff) going on the mechanical work-shops at my uni (and I assume others).
Good luck.
Good luck.
