thats because both the calibra & cavalier are both available in FWD format at we ain't talking about 4x4 cars here
and anyhow in standard form the Cavalier & Calibra Turbo were both far better than a Standard 4x4 Saph (and TBH how could any car maker try compete with the Escos) But i tell you sommit Vauxhall certainly won in the Rwd with the lotus Carton

Sorry fella but a 4x4 turbo cavalier/calibra in standard form is no where near as good a car as the sapp cossie 4x4!Nowhere near as good drive etc!

Indeed, was so obviously bollocks I just didnt even bother to reply, no point going down that route with him, he'll swear its true even though blatantly the only way it is, would be if the clio was fucked or not driven right, no way is an rs2000 actually the quicker car of the two.
Couldn't give a shite about whether you believe me or not. I wanted to post my experience, I dont see the point in putting bollox up on the internet, what I've described is fact, no matter how many of you dont believe me, nothing will change that.

I dont know about the standard Corsa Vxr's
but I would suggest if given the chance drive the Corsa VXR Arctic its in a different world
to the clio's, or any Fwd car for that matter.

My local dealer doesn't have one! LOL
Put my name down to drive a normal VXR earlier in the week...
But while I was there I found a mint 16k Fiesta ST for 8.5k LOL hmmmm tempting.

Hi mate the reason I say this is because I test drove a standard Corsa VXR and was not really impressed. I lost interest in the VXR.
![Sad](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif)
A year later my brother Purchased a Arctic edition. I could tell there was something different, the edition number on the Dash, the distinctive black alloys. The White paint and the exhaust note made me aware I was in a different car.
The sound of this car makes you not want to listen to the stereo.
![Big Grin](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif)
The thing about this car is that its modern, but has not forgotton what a Hot hatch is about. Which alot of the other manufactures have seem to forgotten.
It handles well, fun car, Gets you excited and actually makes you want to go out for a drive.

well,i have mk6 rs2k,driven daily, even my mum drives it....some of you say it's not a true rs,what is true rs??car that's out only on track days or driven 1 day and repairing 2 weeeks????sorry, but you are very very wrong.the time of the rs2k is the time also of escort cosworth...cosworth is better, but alot more expensive, they both ae rs branded, but one is for the masses, other not.that's all the point(ican give many examples, but considering everyone here is a motorhead,it's not necesary) comparing rs(almost 20 yrs old) with that corsa isn's very appropriate, even they aren't in same segment!!!!!
rs2k,astra gsi or golf gti-150 ps,same class, same era, alot of common thngs to dispute, think there must be such thread

Its the badgeing that was being compared.
How all manufactures brand specific models.
Ford just started putting the RS badge to make sells of the RS2k which looked like any other Escort around the time. The proof here the old age RS2K is never associated with the new age. Its like a forgotton car.
RS cars are known for being distinctive.

No point trying to justify it to you lot, it happened, I know the guy that owned the Clio, it was bog standard, well maintained and he was absolutely flat out.. the RS2K was part stripped (rear seat and spare wheel) with a Magnex cat back and a K&N 57i.. maybe 155bhp at the absolute most.. but it pulled a couple of car lengths from the Clio on a straight bit of dual carriageway.

Wrong around the same time the Fiesta RS1800 looked like a xr2i.
Which still looked like a boyracer, hardly had much over the xr which was bad.
That car never lived up to the Fiesta RS Turbo.
The Frst was loved by the media because of its package, technology, fun factor, well equipped.

The mk5 and mk6 RS2000's while underpowered and understated against the more expensive RS Cosworth are still decent cars in there own right. What power and spec where the MK1, Mk2 RS cars? I think the term of real RS has gotten old quickly. People comparing a 1995 Ł26k Escort Cosworth to a 2009 Ł24k Focus RS cant happen for economic reasons, nor can comparing a car from 1970's to the 1990's happen either.
As for the Vauxhauls, I have an 2008 Astra 1.8 sri petrol hire car while I am waiting on my company car being built and I must say its not a quick car, or anything special handling, even with the sport button pressed! In fact our std spec 2006 Focus 1.8 is a better car in every way, now I cant say the VXR range is good or bad as like most on this thread I havent driven them as im sure most have driven the RS 2000 either.

It was not as I expected, I never bothered racing anything as I knew I would get beat.
It felt slow, to much weight for around town. never felt like a sports car even.
The good thing I liked was reliabilty never had to worry, Good for motorway crusing

This thread seems to have gone in a million different directions.
People have short memories also when it comes to a certain RS2000 that only a couple of years ago in standard from apart from
Tyres
Brakes
Suspension (RWD set up, worse than standard imo for corners)
Bog engine at 150BHP
Beet EVERYTHING at Donny, over tuck a skyline which had 600BHP and many many cossies, every thing on track that day (wet day) Marco Polo over tuck the lot, Lotus Elise's every thing.
So for such an under powered car that doesn't deserve the RS badge it seems to have been able to punch way above it's weight!
Now if a near standard RS2000 as above can achieve those heights, I am a happy fella to be modding one to a high spec, imagine how many cars will be upset when I visit the track![Wink](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
RS Badge = Enthusiast Owned Car These Days, so for any other RS enthusiast to under appreciate another's RS is just disrespectful and that's why so many have, as far as I can see, replied to this thread in defence of there RS2000's.

I'm not going to say what speeds were reached on a public forum, but what I would call a reasonable range of speed was used.

I dont know why you beat the one you raced... maybe your car has mods and his is standard, maybe his is running like a bag of shite, maybe his is a tired and abused example, maybe you had help from god, maybe his was a replica RS2000, maybe you are handy behind the wheel and he's a relative retard at the controls, there are lots of potential reasons.

I don't think there's anything wrong at all with the rs2000's, although towards the end they were more of a marketing tool to keep the rs brand on the forecourts and accessible to people who couldn't afford the pensioned off Escort Cosworth.
Someones mentioned that a mk5 rs2k will beat a mk 2 172 clio. Although i'm Ford through and through, i own one of these 172's as my daily driver, and even before mine was modded to 190bhp a 2k wouldn't touch it - the clio weighs over 250kg less and has 20 more horsepower - there was either something wrong with the clio (some were reported to be 15bhp down from the factory, and they rarely make the badged 172) or the 2k was modded.
Never mind the better brakes and handling.

oh well,, i loooooooooovvveeee the rs2000, great all rounder for me. much preferred than any rs turbo. bloody things, nothing but trouble. i've had lots of em. spend more time maintaining them than you do driving them.
only had 1 rs2000 and what a car it was, never let me down, looked great, very comfortable. strong engine. nice chip and de-cat to get rid of any flat spots. induction kit.......wow what a noise. used to put shed loads of cream in my pants.
gonna get another one this year, TBH its the only ford that put a smile on my face while driving it. this is great, feels great on the road, nice power. and all this for an RS, which i think is rare to find....not a worry in the world, reliability.

Hey chap, no need to get hasty, whatever was out first, basically just saying i prefer the mk5 over the mk6 due to looks wise.....as dicussed on the rs2000 forum, shame they didn't put the bulge bonnets on them, but then some members are making that possible on the site, look great with that mod.....
but as it is apart from the engine and interior, looks too much like the GTI, thats why i wouldn't buy one and i'd have another mk5 anyday. dosen't mean i'm digging at people who own the mk6 ones, just what i like and thats just my opinion

Agree on the bonnet bulge.
MK5 or MK6 RS2K, deserves to wear the RS Badge. THE CHAMP IS BACK!

the interior on a Cavalier, Calibra Turbo is far far far better then a Saph is and ever will be
as for the drive, lets go for 6 speed gearbox and very low lag turbocharger, quieter more MPG engine, more advanced management system, better 4x4 setup etc etc
I've had both well 6xSapphire 4x4 cosworths, 3xcalibra turbo, 1 Cavalier Turbo

Don't get me wrong a good Cav Turbo is a storming car, but (IMHO) a good Saph is way more fun, and a lot cooler.
Oh, and for what it's worth I like RS2000s... And Corsa VXRs...
