Standard of driving!?
Is it only me thinking this or is it latley the standard of driving by people has gone down hill sharply??? I mean the fact of people staying in the out side lane and not moving over!! People cutting u up, jumping on the brakes hard for sometimes no apparent reason! People dont keep up with the flow of traffic and seem to hang back causing everyone else trouble, poor lane disapline at jcts and on roundabout etc etc.
I honestly think u should have to take ur test once evey 5-10years or maybe have a more intesive test in the first place!!
Sorry fo the rant but had real shit drive home and coming down with a cold and feel like shit anyway

I think the majority of people are more concerned in trying "NOT" to get nicked for speeding which makes matters worse.
The amount of driving I do at times and nearly 99% of people are at least 5mph under the limit, as speed limits keep chopping and changing all the time

LOL @ Rhys...
I fully agree with every word...
The only way I have found to cope with it, is to just try YOUR best and sit back safe in the knowledge that atleast YOU are doing it properly... !!!!
Good drivers (lane disipline, indicators, thought for others, etc) are by far the minority on UK roads... !!! Its scary..
Whilst having my HGV lessons last week I was told to leave 1.5 to 2 car lengths infront of me at lights, etc, so I could get round if they broke down..
How many times do you think this 'safe' zone was robbed from under my nose... !!!
You just have to put up with it... a sad fact of life..
Luv

I do 80miles to work in a morning & same home & am fed up with people who straight-line roundabouts & don't check the other lane is clear. This has happened to me around 1/2 dozen times in the last month. Normally a van, but sometimes a car. Was soooo close to calling the company last monday when this happened to leave a message for the driver of the van. It will happen!
Fog lights: had some kno b behind me on Friday with these on (Volvo as it turned out). Sat right on my back bumper, inside of MY car lit up like it was daylight. Well busy & couldn't leave him..so I put my rear fogs on/off as you do...but nothing. So I put them back on. If he wants to blind me..I'll give him foglight treatment to. He flashes, I flash rear fogs off & on & off loads of times. He leaves his on..I put mine back on. Eventually he overtakes (almost wiping out his car trying to squeeze infront of 4 cars before he hit something coming the other way).
I totally agree with the re-testing of people. Just think how much safer some of these older people would be IF they knew about the changes in the driving laws since they passed their test in 1890! It would have to be a scaled-test tho as do drive differently from when they passed their test...things like hand position on wheel, hand on gearlever, etc.
I think it would be hard to get people to re-do their test tho as a lot of people would be scared of not passing again..but to combat this if it was made law, you could perhaps pay for the test, then get that money back the next time you bought your tax. Loads of people wouldn't bother getting re-tested (if they don't pay insurance, why would they get re-tested??), but, again, this could be checked before they let you get car tax. No re-test, no car tax. Ultimately it would probably be down to the coppers to enforce this...but I think it could make the roads a lot safer..and make people more aware of any bad driving practices they have.

I spoke to a HGV driver who admitted to ramming a van once, after it pissed him off enuf..
It was trying to squeeze into the slow lane in a jam and the HGV driver had enuf so dropped the clutch and rammed him whilst as he was halfway across...
When the cops arrived the van man screamed that he had been 'rammed'... and the truck driver just claimed that the van cut too close infront of him... !!!
Cops believed the truck, and the insurance sorted it, but Driv felt alot better...
Not the best advise, but it's somehow 'eases my tension' to know that someone has done it...
When we had a Trooper, complete with big Bull-bar, it was so tempting sometimes.. Just a quick shove and the numpty who been peeing you off for 15miles is history... but so would your license...

I agree with some, but not all..
I hang back from traffic on fast a roads simply because its safer. It gives me more time to slow down / stop if the car(s) infront stop suddenly.
How many people use their hazard lights when coming to an abrupt stop?
I did, and still got wiped out at 60mph (could've killed me!).
also, i dont agree with flashing headlights to move someone out of the way - that could cause an accident.
Standards have slipped. I arent the worlds best driver, but i do sit in the left lane as often as possible.
I also try and leave some space infront of me when in a queue of traffic, for the reason chrissie gave, and also if an accident occurs (ie i'm hit from behind), the space i leave could be sufficient enough for me not to hit the car in front.
and tbh, is there really much wrong with going slower past a speed camera? At least it stops you getting points as well!

Yeah i leave space etc as dont follow on beep bumpers and always leave braking distances, excatley why because before whent he traffic on the M4 suddenly stoped, i manged to stop in my old Rover and the fookin transit didnt behind me see he plowed into the back of me But when people leave about 200 yard spaces when traffic is doing 30mph on the motroway WTF just keep up wiuth the pace leaving stoping distances.
As for flash peeps out of the way agreed you shouldnt do it if their driving at say 70mph over taking peeps but thwn they are doing 50mph staying in the outside lane when nothing is on the insdie urgh that just makes my blood boil

There was a BMW rep-mobile behind them, and I was sat a couple of car-lengths behind the BMW. I guess the BMW-driver got bored, because he then put main beam on, started indicating right, and put his hand on the horn, and STILL they didn't move over. After about 20-30 seconds of being permanently on the horn, he undertook them still on the horn, I don't think they even looked over at him and just carried on driving regardless. As soon as the BMW was past them, they pulled over into the left-hand lane without indicating, and almost took out someone else who was about to undertake them.
