Default car squealing problem!!

the car is a focus rs and i was driving yesterday and the car was alright and i have come to get it out the garage and started it up to day and there is a squealing/winding coming from the left side of the engine bay (where the belts are) and when you rev the car the squealing gets louder? i only drove it out the garage but it seemed to stop when the car was in gear driving? any ideas?
cheers

belts are slipping by the sound of it...could be due to cold weather or they could be loose...maybe need replacing...next time it happens...try spraying a little wd40 on them and see if it stops it

I wouldn't spray wd40 on them, it'll only make them slip more. If you get some proper belt dressing and spray that on with it running it should stop it. But ultimately you're gonna need a new belt and probably a tensioner.

Try either talcum powder first on the belt underside ie the ribbed bit, this will stop it.

I once had this problem. I had no antifreeze in the engine and it was frozen solid. Lasted 30 seconds before it threw the cambelt!
