when i put the new lump in mine after the big ends blew apart i couldnt get the car started on cranking it... ended up flat battery... after phoning 5 mates they pushed me down the road and it bumped after a few trys... when it ran it ran smooth but the timing was all out so i limped it home then re timed it in the daylight.. so i personally guessing its your timing.

sorry its no help but your not alone in whats happening.

not something simple like a dodgy ignition switch or something, i had a volvo 850 t5 and just wiggling the keys in the ignition would turn everything off...

or a loom problem, when i had my old sierra, it would start sometimes, then if you got it going, it would be backfiring, cutting out and everything, the previous owner had replaced ecu and loads of bits, and still not cured it, so when i had it,i had it running just!, so started waggling the loom all over and the engine cut out, so dug into the loom and found a wire broke, it was just still connecting cos it was tight in the loom....

like everyone says its a hard one to tell online.. sure its something stupid.. will be worth all the stress and upset when its back on the road atleast its the final steps for you. im still debating breaking, reshelling into non rs shell or welding up mine.. or going all out and putting the lump in my zs that was smashed up over new year.
