I am a member of out regional group (Northern Ireland) but i'm not a member of the national RSOC as i don't really see the point.

Both our group and indeed the Irish RSOC are in my opinion two great groups, loads of superb lads in both! Always willing to help out when they can. I can't wait til the shows start up again

LOL yes ! The reason i say make yourself known is we sometimes have new members turn up, not speak to anyone, go home log on RSOC on here and say they were not welcomed ! I cant welcome someone who i did not know was there ! lol

In fairness, myself and Little Dave couldnt make this years LGM but we both sent e-mail apologies to Dave Easton well in advance. Its the first meeting we've missed for the last 6 years.

Helen, i think most local groups suffer with this, i get quite a few calls off people enquiring about coming along then either never turn up, or like you say, never come and give me a nudge..

i joined around 8 year ago so i could start showing my car..but havent bothered renewing since..had a few snidey remarks from judges about the condition of my car not being "up to scratch"..bit dust here and there..my fault for missing it i suppose but no need to be sarcastic about it..also at the time my car was in the same group as a N reg (i think) rs2000 with 10k miles and mine was a C reg s1..how on earth is that fair? i also got the impression that if you didnt own a cosworth you wernt worthy of being in the club..i presume its different people now so have been considering rejoining..do i need to be a paid up member to attend national day? ive always wanted to go but never been able to for various reasons..

Glenn, if you ever want to attend a local group show and your group aint going, the other north east clubs would let you go on one of there stands .Travell down together, camp whatever, just call.
We have had North yorks cars on ours and vise versa,,, its a national club, about helping fellow members out.
No need to have to go on a visiting car club stand ,, but thats your oppinion and choice.

Oh and yes i will be rejoining when i need to , and will do loads this year after a year off last season

yes you can join the rsoc without owning an rs, it's called an associate membership.
some local groups allow you to join them without being a main rsoc member where as some insist you must be in the rsoc first.

it's always overlooked that without the National RSOC we wouldn't have many regional days now at all
I'll be rejoining this year, as part of Cheshire local group and the national main group - this years AGM/LGM was very uplifting

you must be brave to stand next to someone who has sweated hard over their motor and a ponce slags it off. i would never put my car in a competition to see if its better than someone elses as its gay imo.
i have seen cars that concours judges think are wonderfull that are wonky and look painted.
it always used to be the bloke with the fattest pockets won in the rsoc, theres just some cars that you can't beat as they have never had paint or panels etc and have never been used properly.
its unfair and i am still shocked over 20 years later that people want to try and prove their car is better than someone elses and let it be judged and get picked at.
i know one bloke who went crazy doing it and he couldn't win because a certain very well known car was just too good and was never used and a trailerd car

Or thanks mate thats spot on. To be honest the more i think about it the more i wanna join again. I know what people mean about new members comi.ng to the club. I know alot of new people come to the local meets and r a bit shy. I try my best to talk to new people and make them feel welcome.

Whats wrong with our group Neil? You live in the town where we hold the meets right? Its not like our stands are brimming with cars, we have trouble utilising our national day passes some years! Its embarrasing as other groups are fighting for the space to show their cars. You've known most of the members longer than I have. I seem to remember you breaking down a couple of years back and your group fucking off and leaving you? We all pulled over to help you out.

I have never understood the mentality of classing yourself as a member of one local group. In my eyes you join the RSOC, not a local group and as such should be made to feel welcome at any local group you decide to visit. Local groups are there to promote the club, not themselves imho.

As said I think every group suffers with this. When people turn up and hide in the corner of a busy pub how are you to know they have come for the meet? If someone contacts me showing interest in the group I always give them my number and tell them to call when they get there so I can go outside and meet them. Introduce them to the others and go from there. The trouble with my group is its only small so some look from the outside in thinking its clicky. Its not, we have just become a group of friends with the same interest. New people are welcomed into our "click" all the time.

kieron.tbh i didnt really think of it as i tend not to go to yours i have no problem with you. or the club in general really.individually alot of your lot are ok and yes i have known them many years but tbh alot of the time i have been its only a few people that will talk to me and trace.when in a group.
not sure why.and as i had always been an essex memeber(i used to go on my own before all the others knew what an rs was) thats where i got on with everyone.shame its been outted from the club

maybe its because i dont get on with chambers and alot of you are good mates with him, they dont like to seen two faced or something?i dont have a problem with people for this, its fine.i dont have a propblem with them being mates with him either.i just wont ever be
dont know, maybe i should try harder with some of you and see.?

yes i do remember you stopping and steve of all people helping.which i did appreciate i wasnt with the group then,i had one of my mates who went steaming off and didnt realise i had the issue till further down the road

as said kieron ive always said hello to most of you and always make the effort to say hi at least,if i see you

as for outsiders going to meets. no one can be as bad as the pugsport club i went to.

rang the chairman, went down to harlow.car park full of clubs and i thought great.went in and introduced myself, the chairman said hi how am you etc.and the others all looked at me like i was some sort of mutant, then carried on talking among themselves.
i tried the month after and it was the same so i basically told the chairman what i thought.and never went back

I didn't realise you didn't get on with Chambers and tbh he is rarely there nowadays. I havent seen him in months. Its not the same club as it was a few seasons ago due to people selling up and moving away etc. The rest all just ride the bandwagon and if one gets a BMW then the rest have to.

There will always be certain people that don't get on and I thought you may not come because you are mates with a certain woman that goes. She has not really been in with the group for a while as she thinks I have the hump with her for ripping another member off. Something I need to address really as she did piss me off but I have let it escalade into something its not. She has kept away and I havent made the effort to go talk to her, my bad in my position.

Times change and people move on. TBH if you come you would probably only know Tom, Little Dan & Binks now, the others are new members. I would be very happy to meet you and Tracey and have a chat away from the others about any concerns etc mate. If you don't feel comfortable about coming to the group though its your call. Can't pretend I am not disappointed though as I dont want to give off the impression of being unapproachable. As said we have always said hello etc when we've seen each other at shows and that so if you want to show your car on our stands etc then let me know. You don't have to come to the meets to do that.

I joined the rsoc and north yorks group when i was 18 so 8 years back, was a member for 1 year and attended a few shows, but tbh it just wasnt for me with all the politics and bollox, i got a letter saying they were going to terminate my membership from the ny group cause i hadnt been to a few meets, now i thought this a little off as my rs was off the road and had no reason to treck 40 miles to sit and talk about nothing, plus i had paid for a year so had contributed to the group.

Last year i joined the cleveland group and went to a few local meets but wont be joining again but only due to the fact i dont own an rs and will probably never own another.

I tend to think of the rsoc as being far to serious and far to much bitching goes on which i cant be arsed with, its much easier turning up doing your own thing saying hello to people you know then going home when you want to imo

lol, aint that the truth mate.ive always been an rs entusiast, even when i had my nissan and peugeot. i was in an rs from my second car and went to meets when i knew no one.then the others started to buy them and theyve fallen by the wayside while im still there.

as for your issue,i am presuming we are talking about a lady with a mk1? she hasnt mentioned any reason to me other than she didnt go any more.i didnt pry as she didnt offer info. but no it wasnt that reason.i dont dislike people because others dont same way as i dont expect others to dislike someone due to me not liking them.

i didnt realise that it was only you four going still.all the ones that did make the effort.says something really imo!

i will make an effort then mate and see if i can get jase and zo back down too.

im was always of the opinion that i wouldnt like to show my car on a clubs stand that im dont go to as it looks like you are just using them and imo thats wrong.
but i will say if i do the meets i may only do some shows due to membership the the escortrscosworth.com club. i was on it from when it started and want to help them too

i will make an effort kieron,so will be at the next meet i can make to have a chat.im not one to hide what i think and if theres anything i think is aproblem i will say just not in the cossie

Neil, will be nice to see you. You can do as little or as much as you want just as long as you know we're there. As for not being in a cossie, whats one of those? Very few RS's out in the winter. Mine hasn't been on the road for a couple of years now and it debatable that it will be this year.

I appreciate what your saying about showing the cars but tbh I have never been bothered. If we have a large club and not enough spaces then yes it would be unfair but we havent. Zo & Ja have had their cars on our stands before and I think they did this year when I wasn't about. We have previously let Essex Group members join us for Combe when their group didn't have a stand. I have been talking to Tim about this as he feels hes in the same situation as you. We have had a duplicate conversation (apart from the not liking people etc).

Come along, I'm sure we can find alot to chat about instead of hyjacking this thread anymore

I lost all respect for the RSOC about 4 years ago.

I was a fully paid up member and attended most of the shows for about 5 years.
I was even on the local group comittee acting as events organiser for a while.

Then one day, our local group chairman told me I wasnt a member and fired me from the comittee and told me I was no longer welcome at the meetings.

In fact the main RSOC has screwed up my membership and despite me having a valid membership card still in date, they told me I wasnt a member.
I proved I had paid to Trudy but she had to issue me a new membership number to cover the remaining time of my memebership for that year.

So after proving all this to my local comittee, did I get an appology or reinstated...did I fuck

After all the time and effort of attending shows that most other of our members could not be assed to do and helping out on the local group shows I got zero thanks so in the end just gave up going !!!

The club is full of people so far up there own asses but they are allowed to behave like little hitlers.

Big shame really....
