Default how long would rabbits from a garden hutch last in the wild?

now ok i think this is and isnt wrong, but my sister is tonight taking her two rabbits to the new forest and releasing them, basicly had enough couldnt give them away, in one way yes they will experiance freedom and real life

in another im predicting mr fox will eat them in under 30 mins

i might be wrong they might be fine

whats your thoughts? these rabbits never come out the cage so surely they wont know what to do?
ive told her i think she should do it int he daytime

This is cruel in my opinion. They have been domesticated and will have no idea how to fend for themselves. They will have lost alot of their natural instincts. It's irresponsible and wrong!!! full stop.

Well, they wont have a nice warm bed to sleep in and it's going to be cold tonight so my guess is they will be dead by the morning.

You would be suprised how protected they are by abit of tarpaulin and straw....

She could give them to a sanctuary or the rspca will take them off her hands if she is desperate.....

as Nicole said, they're domesticated - i think its pretty wrong anyway, but this time of year has got to be the worst time surely?

i think they will be ok..my sister has had 1 for about 6 year....it was loose in the garden but it was paved...when they pulled it up the rabbit instantly started to burrow..didnt seem to lost any of its instincts...was quite domesticated as it was allowed in the house etc..but as soon as my dog was introduced to it, it shit its pants and hid..so it obviously still knew when it may have been in danger

but seriously i dont think she should do it...as nicole says a sanctuary or something..giving them some food and water for another few nights wont be too much of a hassle for her sureley?

It wont last long. Surely she can find a home for them. If not then as said, a sanctury ar rspca will take them.

The ground is that hard this time of year, it might as well be paved!

I to reckon it'll be dead before she gets home

yea they honestly won't last 5 min's a fox's smell is amaizin n they can go n e where a rabbit can the only time rabbit's get away from fox's is by goin down there hole n i'm sure her rabbit's won't think that, they don't alway's last long in there hutch i'v had rabbit's outside when i was young n the fox ate through the chicken wire n had the rabbit's inside so wot chance they got in the wild, poor decision tbh mate n think rspca or sanctury would be the better option

remember hearing about baby seals looked after in a rescue centre place for months, they then got taken down to the sea and released, and a killer whale chomped em up within 30 secs...

Can she not take them to pets at home there is always rabbits there that people dont want ready for adoption. I myself have 2 rabbits but they are house rabbits and stay in the house most of the time. I let them out in the back garden when its not to cold. I think pet rabbits will be scared in the wild and carnt see them lasting long. My wifes old rabbit she used to have when she lived at home with her mam got attacked by a fox which came into the garden to get the rabbit. I hope she carnt go through with it.

Why not do something useful with them?
Rabbits are delicious.

I will happily take them off your sisters hands if your local to me, and she can even come to lunch if she likes

its cruel, possibly, but what does it really matter. its a rabbit and itll sacrifice its life so some other wildlife can have a hearty meal and possibly survive itself. thats nature.

missing the point tho with that arent you.

doesnt matter if we give a shit about the rabit or not, she's doing it as she thinks it's the next best thing after giving them away or selling them when in reality it's probably the worse thing to do as far as the welfare is concerned.

if she didnt give a shit about them she would be better off just killing them herself

A rabbit sanctury place will take them, and adopt them out, my current rabbit came from one, hes proper amusing, but very domesticated, as in runs up to and pesters my cats. he would last about 15second in the wild

here he is, called Simon

Your sister is totally irresponsible.

I genuinely hope she has no other pets in her 'care'. It takes very little effort to take them to an organisation who will find them a responsible owner.

If she is going to go to the new forest why not take them just down the road to verwood R.S.P.C.A near ringwood they have a big area for rabbits all she has to do is take them there and drop them off.
But for FUCK sake DO NOT let them go in the woods
