i designed a straight taper inlet like that years ago, its still part finished in my garage, didnt have tig back then, the escort will be sporting soemthing nice though

Shape looks good. Be careful how you construct it and where you put the seams as 2bar pressure cycled with a vacuum means they can fatigue crack and/or split open under pressure.

One trick that can be used is a small diameter ally rod (8ish mm) passed through the two biggest planes and welded to the shell. This stops the balooning.

Also just in case you a haven't noticed you need to pay some attention to the top tube runnning forward of the top mount. It looks like it has been nicked with an angle grinder.

 

yip i saw that, was a bit grinder happy! yeah i was going use small dia ally pipe passed through it prob a couple, and also say i use 3mm ally i will get a 3mm grove milled out the plenum plate and throttle body flange so it slots in and not depending on the weld and it will also be welded on the inside, then both mating faces will be skim when finished.
