The F20 should be stronger, apparently the numbers roughly equate to what torque the box will handle ie; F16 160lbft and a F20 200lbft.

different ratios as far as i know. im going back years and years now but i had a 16v nova and it started life with an F20. changed it to the F16 and the gears were far shorter. could hit the limiter in 5th with the F16.

Im sure chip or any of the other vauxhall boys will help you out as soon as they see this

F16CR is on the metal tag on the end of the gear casing iirc for the close ratio

the F16 close ratio is the same ratio as a standard f20, the wide ratio has a higher final drive

you can get a ''slightly'' closer ratio f20 found in the 4x4 cav that has higher final drive than a standard f20

but if its a standard xe either will do

Of what? An F10, F13? or later F18? I think not lol

In terms of going wrong the Vauxhall FWD box was always more popular

My F28 shattered the diff and blew it through the box in several places running phase 2 in a Corsa. It had been rebuilt/re conned no more than 500 miles before I got my hands on it. It lasted a fortnight. In 3 cars I have destroyed 12 diffs. They dont like my driving style.

My V6 Vectra is surviving so far but has developed a very light CV type noise, hoping its not another diff.

mtx75 and mmt6 cant be far off that.

f16cr tops out about 135 at 6500rpm
f20 tops out at 150 at 6500rpm from what i remember
standard f16 is silly long legged, saw an indicated 140 in 4th in my old cav sri down hill on the m1.

I would say for 1/4's you'd want the F16, only bother with this in a road car is at motorway speeds you have higher revs and you end up deaf!!!!!

F16 "apparently" uses larger bearings on the main shaft.
