I would say focus Rs but they are still falling at the moment. They have got to be easier to live with though aswell which always helps.

Saffs shit! For a lot of people,me for one, they are the only way to ever own a cosworth,as they are the only cosworth within reach for a lot of people.

I don't agree with sapphs being shit, i could have had an escort, but chose a sapph, because i prefer the understated looks (Taxi ) You can get a lot of bang for your buck if you buy the right sapph.

Remeber the fastest cossie in the land is a sapp

Focus RS would be the one to have, even if it loses more money you probably wouldn't spend half the amount in repairs etc that you you would on the cosworth, & it drives so much better

bad luck for you

they are similar to saffs in value, but far more reliable and a better all round car that you can use everyday without worrying about its value, or it breaking down

if you want an investment, get the money and stick it in the bank, FRS's are bargains at the minute but they arent gonna appreciate any time soon

the saff is 'more' of a performance car in my opinion as 350bhp is relatively easy and they are 4 or RWD.

if you have to live with it day in day out get a focus, more reliable, better to drive and cause much less paranoia

I don't know how many Saphs were made and how many are actually out there in good nick at the moment. As time progresses, there will be fewer of them around and getting a good one may be harder so may demand a decent price (over years to come). However, the FRS is the newer car and depending on the market, I think they would have more potential buyers than the Saph would over x amount of years.

i was about to say who wants a bloody focus rs when they're all blue so why would they hold money? then the s1's were all white and look at them? made me wonder? but for me would be saff. theres no individuality with focus rs owners other than private plates in my opinion . take ford fair for example, the focus rs stand is BORING!!! as they're all exactly the same lol. stick with that MINT saff you have

I can't understand people slating saphs, IMO they are the nicest of the Cosworths to drive, especially a well specced RWD example, and they look great if done right. All 3 of the Cosworth shapes have thier positives and negatives, and I own a saph and an Escos, and have driven enough 3 doors to know that! Stick with the saff, Focus RS is just FWD boredom.

I don't think Focus RS's will ever have the same status as a cosworth (even a 'shit' sapph) - I remember sapphires being for sale for the same money as they are now 10 years ago - how many cars can you buy and it be worth the same if not more than when you bought it a few years later?
I do think the FRS will hit a point, but I think the Cosworth will always have that precedence (if that makes sense)

I might be mad, but a chap parks his sapphire cos round the corner from us everyday (then hops in his mates van for work), I drove past it and STILL admire the looks, even when just sit in start ours up in the garage it still feels a bit special

Either are likely to hold value if looked after, they aren't made anymore and will get more and more rare.

The focus RS has a few advantages IMO in that it is a more modern car, no tinworm, less were made so rarer.

Prices have dropped on them and think will still abit but as said will have peaks and troffs so some years will be worth more, then other years will drop.

The S1 is an example, earlier this year they rocketed, but now seems to be struggling to sell for decent money - maybe the ecconomy, maybe the market being flooded with all the rotters that people suddenly decided to get shot of while the prices were high.

One on this site sold for just over 2k last week iirc that needed finishing, 6 months ago that would have been closer to 4k.

IMO, buy a car you like, look after it and you'll get your cash back in a few years or close, if lucky, maybe a little more.

I don't see how you can compare the two really, two totally different cars. The way I see my Cosworth is not only my pride and joy but also an investment as prices for all Cosworths can only appreciate further in years to come as they become even rarer.

You have to consider the market also as I said above. In proportion, the old school car enthusiast is inferior compared to your average Joe Bloggs with a bit of car knowledge/background, a bit of a petrol head and with a bit of money to spend on a decent car that goes quick and is a bit special. Focus RS should cover that. That's why there's so many Focus STs out there. The RS being a limited edition and having a RS badge will help preserve some of its value but whilst a good Saff may command good money, the market for them may be substantially less than that for a well sorted, clean Focus RS.

not saying a sapp is a bad car i have owned one for the last 7 half years but they are classed as the "lesser cosworth"!i am toying with a 3 door!as certain people on here will be able to tell you!to say i change my mind is a understatement!

i just think that the sapp cossie would be the one in the years to come that the focus will be closest to with regards to value

Noooooooooooooo how many times have i heard that about the Focus RS over the years Yes they may be the same purple colour lol (Indy will know what i mean ) but as for all of them being the same thats a bit harsh

Some of us FRS owners do have quite "individual" cars as you put it Have a look on the FRS section of the RSOC & you'll see that most cars there are running a fairly wide range of setups, etc rather than just being same old, same old

In relation to the original poster in the thread though i wouldnt say that an FRS would be a good investment though especially now - they're devaluing heavily & will continue to do so next year with the way things are going meaning cheaper bargains to be had

saph prices have already hit the lowest they ever will and will continue to rise in price for the good 1's in the future
focus's are still coming down a bit, so if bought now and sold in a couple of years then you would lose imho
in a couple of years time the focus will be a great investment but not just yet
so best bet is keep saph for another 2 years then sell and buy a focus, then that way saph will be worth a little more to sell and focus will be a little cheaper to buy
