Default Petrol Question

Iv just changed the petrol tank on my sapphire cosworth, iv put 2 gallons in. The petrol light is still on and the gauge is still in red, is this right? If so how much does it need before light goes out and needle moves?

Gauge and light worked perfect before and iv used the original sender unit.

The light comes on when there is less than 8 litres (1.7 Gallons) in the tank

Tank capacity is 60 litres I think

I've managed to get over 60 litres in my Sapphire before (without having to push it ). Must have been running on fumes .

However, I have always run my cars down to almost empty (with regular fuel filter changes), as I have not wanted to allow the build up of any crap in the bottom of the tank by never allowing it to run low.

well i took the cossie out on weds night to take it to the PF meet - realised there was no juice so had to drive to the other side of town to get Optimax got there and the fookin petty stn is closed

looked at my juice needle and its sitting right at the bottom of empty. Then thought fook putting Superunleaded in, and then i started heading towards Windsor which is the next nearest Shell. Cruised it ever so gently there knowing that if i put my foot down I will not be going anywhere

Put said juice in - then realised I have a water leak from the header tank to turbo hose so had to coast the car back home then - and a fookin Testarossa went flying past me on the test track and i couldnt play due to my leaky hose

Normally out juice in after it drops below qtr tank.
