Exclamation a mate put petrol in a diesel engine!

a friend of mine put 1 litre of super unleaded petrol in a diesel tank today, realised this and then filled it up with 69 litres of diesel after, just wondering will this cause a problem as it was such a small amount of petrol?

fuel light had been on empty for ages and he drove it 5 miles up the road and it seemed fine.

Such a small amount won't affect it, they used to add petrol to diesel to stop it freezing in the winter.

I would imagine it to be very diluted now so shouldnt be a problem...

But then again....

What car was it?

My brother in laws dad done this the other day he put £25 of petrol in his diesel car and drove about 10 miles then when he got back he went to go out in the car again and it would start but sound like it was running on 3 cylinders so all we did was fill the tank to the top with more diesel and kept topping it up with diesel and now its fine lucky for him

Is only 1.5% diluted, can't see it making much odds; possibly on some super high tech new diesel with 3 million bar pressure but doubt it.

The tranny will be fine, if it was an older model without cat etc, then you could just pour in a litre of hydraulic fluid to help, got told this by a diesel man, worked on my escort d.

No problem at all with that - the handbook for my 04 reg L200 says I can dilute the diesel by upto 30% petrol
