Default How to make a low compression engine

Orite fellas

doing a bit of reading and i wanted to know i wana run a turbo on my 325i sport m tech 2 know the compression is high at 8.5.1 or 9 something not sure the exact pressue i wana drop the compression and strap a turbo on to it running about 12psi

Will the pistons have to be chnaged im new to moded engines but am going to do the work myself

If your compression is at that sort of level, its about the same as most modern turbo engines anyway.

Id have thought 12psi on 98 ron would be a breeze.

Ways to lower CR though:
Low comp pistons
Thicker head gasket
Open the combustion chamber up a bit more (often possible on 2v engines)

i think its 9 something so using a thick layer head gasket would reduce the compression i dont want to spend mega money on the engine just want to get the car from the standard 160 bhp to about 250bhp

I was thinking of boring out my 325 engine to 327 then turbo the mofo, however i may stick to a 325 unless i can do it cheap engines are peanuts about 250 for engine and box and a whole turbo kit from the states is 800 unless i can get it done a bit cheaper hear might get the bolt on kit

Try it at standard CR first, see what sort of ignition values you end up with at peak torque on 98 RON and it should be obvious if you need to change CR and by how much.

If this is a 325 m20 lump you will be fine with a low boost setup.

After that there is a thick HG and easy stud/nut kit conversion that should see you upto 350 bhp ish.

Garage 19: what stud nut kit this would be ideal if the headgasket and nut kit would let me boost 350bhp as long i dont have change the pistons any time soon

Also are the ebay bolt on kits any good

if i remember right the kits for the USA are for left hookers and foul the stearing i not sure but i think the turbo diesal manifold can be flipped to forward mount a turbo as i have said it's all there on the e30zone

Just for info....

If you only run about 6 to 8 psi, you can get a 30 to 40% power increase without touching the CR on pump fuel and probably wont need an intercooler if the turbo is specced right !

This is called low pressure charging..

Simon what turbo would you recommend for this?

Also would you require an additional injector for fueling, Im assuming a cossie IC would be sufficient for low boost.

I cant recomend a turbo as I am not clued up with turbo specs.

Unfortunately I am not familiar with this engine but an extra injector will work fine but some vehicles with AFM's can add extra fuel nicely to a point but there is only one way to find out....try it !!!

cheers - I have a mate who is really into his BM's and breaks quite afew E30s. he used to have a turbo'd E30 335i too, and still has several supercharged e30s.

german ebay (ebay.de) is a good bet for any parts you may need for turboing an e30. Possibly ebay.com for the US parts

There's no real reason NOT to use an intercooler though, as it's beneficial at all boost levels.
