FIAT CINQUECENTO any one had one??????
thinking of getting one gonna drive it for a wile then give it to my gf as she is doing lesions
just wanted to no what they are like ie
fuel consumtion
reliability

very very tinny mate, wouldn't like to be in a bump.
If you after a cheap little motor then the MK4 fiesta 1.25's are good, quiet reliable little zetec lump, fretty comfortable.
Fiat punto's are also pretty cheap, have seemed pretty reliable from experience.

thats what i wanted to get her but insurence for an 18 year old on the fiesta is out of this world compaired to the fiat. en dont fancy a punto lol

my dad had one (for about 6 years) and apart from having to have the head skimmed was pretty reliable until the fusebox literally went up in smoke! My mum lost faith in it so got rid! Basic and noisey and gutless but are like gokarts due to weight and size!

clarke i wouldnt touch a fiat with a barge pol, as you know ive had a few, unless you get dont get bored of changing gearboxes or release bearings on runabouts then go for one lol.

just bought my sister a 1.1 pug 106 on an r plate and its bang on, few little niggles but all in all it drives suprisingly well and is economical and not shit slow suprisingly

i used to work on fiats a few years ago. They did a fuel tank recall on them cause they started to leak. The back hand brakes used to stop working cause the hand brake levers in the drums used to get covered in water and seize. My mrs has had 2 fiestas with the 1.25 16v engine in and they have both been spot on. The fiesta we have now we have been all over the country in it. Its never missed a beat.

The Mrs has a 1.0 Corsa...goes on and on and on and on... It takes over 100 miles before the petrol gauge starts moving. Great little work horse.
My sister had a seicento, was like a hair dryer.. good on petrol but thats about it. She couldnt believe it when someone nicked it... desperate theives

I wouldnt buy one.......... and also a fiat was the worst car ive ever driven(96 punto) noisey, slow, uncomfortable the lot, im not even joking, was a horrible car, im so glad i only had to drive it for one afternoon while my car was in for a service!
Be worth paying a few extra and getting the mk4 fiesta

ive had one .
there not too bad a motor . cheap as chips to run . quite nippy around town .
performance ..err no
can get them looking quite nice though mine was black with abarth kit and spoiler and split rims on it . got me around for a few months cheaply . was reliable too only thing i had trouble with was a small oil leak from gearbox

As a 1st car, they are ideal.
I have a little 899cc one. It is the early model (1993 with the fuel cap on show, not behind the fuel flap like later models). It does 45mpg in London rush-hour traffic, and will still sit @ motorway speed limits if required.
I use mine for work as it uses less than £20 per month in fuel compared to nearer £60+ in the Saff, plus I can park it in places that other cars could only dream about.
Insurance for me (29 with partner on policy) is £110 FC. Tax is £110 for 12 months. 1st car owner would be probably around £500-£600 I imagine, so don't go getting one for £1000+, they ain't worth it.
In the event of an accident, they ain't all that, but most very small cars like that aren't.
Stay away from a base model (like mine) as they literally have no electric toys other than a rear wiper and heated rear window. An SX has electric windows and central locking, much better option.
Mine came to me FOC as it was the father-in-laws who drove it until he died. I am the 3rd owner and it has done 76k, mainly with no problems.
As far as rust goes, look under the back seat. A common rust point is near the rear seat belt anchorage point. IF it has gone there, then you have water leaks in through the boot, which could be anything. Chassis legs go, be wary of any with lots of rust on the 1/4 panels. Other than that, a good, regular service and they go almost forever.
Also, look out for doors that do not close properly, or drop slightly when opened. A mate used to work in the docks taking these and the Sportings off the ferry for new delivery. Out of every 100 off the boat, 5-6 would end up with twisted chassis' by the time they were parked as they would bend coming off the ramps almost sideways
The later Sciecento models didn't suffer this problem as the chassis was stronger....

Have driven both Cinque and Seicento Sportings - I hope I never have to drive either of them ever again. Handling wasn't all that, despite people's claims - They were both so slow that you never got up enough speed to actually test the handling!
I generally like to think I can see the good in any car.. but not the Cinquecento!

I had a 52plate one as a run around, in the whole 4 years i had it cost me a back window cos some cunt shot it out with an airgun when i was driving and a handbreak cable
It so far has been relaible car iv even ownd, never once gave up, i handles pretty well and for about town driving witch its really made for it was nippy enough, its small size was good as well when parking

i own a cinquecento iand yes i hate it the gear box whines and its dog slow with poor handling but it does what it says on the tin it gets from a to b cheaply and is fairly reliable i actually owned one at 18 too for a yearish and i gave it hell thrashed it to death did burn outs, hand brake turns, doughnuts i could even over steer it pretty much like a fiesta by lifting of on a corner. i bumped it up on two wheels once and off roaded it lol i also used it for work and quite often loaded about 10 bags of plaster in it eventually it died after 15000miles of abuse from a dead fuel pump cracked brake disks no rear shoes knackered shocks broken brake servo and i lost the drivers windscreen wiper and we caved the roof in (got bored and threw stuff off the scaffold at it and parked in next to a mixer)
but my g/f loves em you an buy a low mileage one cheap tax it cheap insure it cheap and repair it cheap imo there a good first car fiestas are rot boxes and are some much more expensive to run and are easy to and more likely to be stolen
btw the one i own now was £200 with a blown head gasket but 10 months mot £70 to repair and in october went straight though its first mot

We had one in our leman convoy last year.....they went from nottingham, to leman, then onto the nurburgring (ive got some pics of it on the ring ) then amersterdam then back home to where it lived for many more months of abuse.....why cant a cossie do that?
