YB Engine length
Not near my 3 door till the weekend to measure, so can anyone help me out with the length of a YB please?
Ideally from the back of the block till the front edge of the bend on the waterpump outlet pipe.

The rad will mount further forward in the chassis rails using the holes normally used by a 500 cooler, you will probably need a custom cooler then to fit the smaller opening -that will give you about another 40mm, and using slimline fans will give another 20-30mm. The space is there but any more and your then talking custom v shaped coolers and rads, base type headlights rather than the wider cosworth ones. Trimming the lip of the bulkhead at the back of the engine will give another 20mm or so
Your would be putting more weight ahead of the axles as well, most people relocate the bulkhead instead like Brom etc
Its 80mm from the front of the thermo hose to the back of the rad but this narrows down to about 40mm due to the 2wd intercooler and fans

Ah, Ive literally just posted up asking about mounting a cooler in the front bumper as that seems to have a lot of wasted space in it funnily enough.
The extra length on the new engine is largely belts and plastic covers etc, so shouldnt be a significant amount of extra weight ahead of the axle, especially as the whole engine is only the same weight as the YB anyway, so essentially its going to be equivalent merely to moving the YB a couple of inches forward at worst.
I dont really want to chop the bulkhead up as I want to keep the standard RS500 interior and dash in it if I can.

I was planning on putting a 1UZ V8 (4 litre lexus engine) into my calibra as a project. (ive bought this already)
Ive since sat down and thought about it, and if I have a v8 rwd calibra, I have no use for the sierra, there would just never be a time when I wanted to drive the sierra if I had that option in the garage too, so I decided that I have to pick one of them to ahve rwd, not have both as they are doing the same job, I was thinking maybe 4wd the sierra so its a bit different to the calibra in that respect at least.
This is a bit daft though, convert a 4wd car to rwd, and a rwd car to 4wd, all felt a bit like I was doing things just for the sake of them (which I was TBH as I like projects to work on)
Then I thought a bit about the saab 2.3 turbo engine that you can get monster power out of, and will fit the calibra's 4wd system believe it or not (same floorpan the GM2900 system!), and it suddenly occurred to me that I should keep the sierra RWD and fit the V8 to it, and keep the calibra 4wd and fit the 2.3 turbo, and that would be less work and actually better end results anyway.
Sierra will either get two GT30's or a GT42R, depending on the space, preferably the GT42R, as its twin scroll (ideal for a v8) and I have it already anyway.
So im just looking into essentially a feasability study on if the sierra V8 makes sense or not, if it doesnt I'll break the car for bits, and use an E36 instead.

They'll fit in well with the nova then
Bud-Weis, Broms was sat far enough back you would have had no chance of getting the standard dash in there, the heater controls etc are where his engine ended up.
I dont want this car to be a stripped out trackday car like his, I want full comfy interior in both the calibra and the sierra, as I have the nova and soon the mini which are stripped and buckets etc.
