Default Motorcyle helmets

Hi Guys

Are all motorcycle helmets the same size on the outside ???? obviously the padding inside varies according to head size? However if you have a big head that would mean less protection if all helmets are a standard size.

Does anyone know the answer?

No, the actual polystyrene is the same thickness for all sizes. So all lids are the same strength. the padding really only locates it n your head. Sure, it can absorb a little bit more if you have a tiny head but its debateable whether at 70mph+ it would make any actual difference. Its only sponge after all.

They are all different sizes mate. I have 3 different road helmets, all the same fitment size, but all slightly different shell sizes.

Basically, the thickness of the internal structure is the same as said above, but the shell size varies to suit different head sizes. Its debatable whether larger helmets offer more protection though as the thickness of the internals is the same, but the actual surface area of the internals obviously increase with head size, so in theory, it 'may' spread the impact more effectively if you have a big bonce.

cheap ones have the same outer shell size for all sizes, meaning that small sizes have more padding on the inside. the downside is that it's more bulky and catches the wind more.

only expensive ones have different shell sizes

there are certainly different shell sizes.

for example one manufacturer might use the same outer shell for their small and medium sizes and then a larger shell for large and extra large sizes and so on..
