Default Crash Helmets For Track Day-What type? Where from? How Much?

I need to get a couple of crash helmets for the track days I’m doing this year.

Could I use my brother’s motorbike helmet? Or does a full face/visor obscure your vision in a car?

What kind of crash helmet should I go for?

Where should I get them from?

And how much should I expect to pay?

i'm not too sure on the open face or full face but price wise you can get a helmet with a gold sticker on which means there approved i think for anything from £50 to £500 it just depends on how much you want to spend, the most i've spent on a helmet is £230 and it wasn't much different than a £50 one in my opinion.
If you go for a full face one i'd recommend a simpson one (the same one as the stig wears) they look evil

Take open one or semi closed one, rally style. MOre comfort and easier to communicate with passenger.

I got this kiddie from a bike shop in Stevenage all in for under £150

I only use one about 3 times a year so didn't want to spend a fortune

I've always used a full face helmet, cos that's what I always used to race open top stuff in.

I find it more comfortable as I'm used to it.

Open or full face is fine.

I wear both in competition and dont notice any difference with regards obscuring the vision. If you go for full face just remove the visor for the day.

As above £50 to £500 the choice is yours. Go to a place to have one fitted correctly for comfort is always good advice.

Its not yet mandatory for trackdays but expect legislation to come in soon to get them upto a certain standard for insurance purposes etc

Excellent advise . I assumed a helmet was a helmet but the lass in the bike shop explained it all really well and I left with a helmet that fitted properly.

Yep, but what about when it's 30 degreees celsius? Last weekend when I was to Subaru rally it was over 32 degrees, I can't imagine sitting in a car that is really hot in full closed helmet.

Were talking the UK here mate

Ones with umberellas fitted would be more useful over here

With 3 layer overalls, proban balaclavas, neck braces etc you come off the stages sweating like a bitch anyway

Last time I was in UK it was something like 30 degrees and really hot. So it happens there too.

following on from this, what kind of checks are done on them when you go to a track day?
I've got an old (and expnsive!) shoei one I used to use on my bikes, but once when i came off it got scuffed down the side by the visor (enough to take off the outer layer of paint so it now has a nice white stripe ) . I know it wasn't actually in an impact so I'm happy using it, but would it be allowed as it has a scuff and obviously the marshalls/whoever wouldn't know how this ocurred?

At the moment its a relaxed rule regarding helmets so I would expect you would get away with that

I bought a full face helmet and bought an aftermarket tinted visor

Only have the visor down if the sun is blinding me
