Will the new roadtax laws kill the value of post 2001 performance cars?
Can you see the values of cars that cross over, say E46 M3's or Ferrari F360's, turning upside down, i.e early cars 99-march 2001 commanding a premium as they fall into the cheaper tax catagory than the post 2001 models? And can you see the arse falling out of cars like the Focus ST etc?

well its pretty obvious really that cars costing £400 a year to tax will loose some of thier value. I cant see it being a huge amount though. Sure a 2001 car might be worth a tiny bit less than a 2000 model but beyond that the depreciation will play a bigger part.
In about 10 years it could make a huge difference as by then the age of the cars will mean less and overall condition/mileage etc count more so a cheaper to tax car would be considerably more valuable.

you really think the people that buy ferraris and m3's and high end stuff are going to settle for a cheaper runaround to save £200 ish a year on road tax? no they wont, they will carry on buying them and paying the extra as the government knows fine well.
and know that the recessions hit the average joe cant afford the extra.

It will definitely make a difference, in the same way that pre 1972 cars are tax free, and the ones after are taxed. The difference is only about £200 a year, but the values can be thouands different as they are more desirable.

People ar saying ferraris and m3's etc but its not just the likes of them its stuff like rx8's and s2000's. Now who the fuck in there right mind would buy a 2001 s2000 when a 2000 model s2000 is exactly the same car but half as much to tax for a year?
Its cars like these where you can buy the same car a year older and pay half the tax that will be hit hard imo

Imo yes, my brother in law looked at a very nice scooby the other day 04 plate, he was very intrested until he learned of how much it would cost to tax it for 12 months,
as already said, the slags in whitehall are just fleecing us constantly, and as someone has pointed out if you own a 360 you aint gonna be worried about the pitence to tax it, if you are a working class person though you will be struggling to pay 400 sovs to tax ya scooby, all bollox imo

the extra tax you pay could out weigh the premium that ud be paying in purchasing the more "desirable" 2000 lower tax model!
Ie the extra tax over 3 years will be around £600 over a 2000 car
if the 2000 is say £500-1000 more expensive to purchase cos theres such a demand for them, then the cheaper newer less desirable 2001 car is the winner!

i feel that people who have post 2001 performance cars as a second car will end up using them less, perhaps sorn for the 6 winter months etc, which means that the mileage will be down, thus ofsetting the possible accellerated depreciation.
i can see this hike in road tax all leaning towards a pay per mile system

Read in a few papers this week that the Goverment might be scrapping these new road tax increases next april. If it goes ahead some cars are sure to loose some money, same old story the motorist gets taxed to the hilt

But whats £400 tax anyway,
i mean i just filled up my landy on friday .......£98.95
4 tanks worth and im already burnt £400.
Yesterday i put £30 in the golf Gt sport and £20 in the VR6. Cars cost money thats life.
Also the extra tax on these cars only works out to about £0.54p extra per day. hardly bank breaking. if you smoke thats about 2 fags worth, or a mars bar, or a packet of chrisps.
But i can see how MOST people cant see past the "red mist" on this sort of stuff.

ok so most of the people can afford it like you say,, but why should some people be fleaced by the government and pay more than others for the same shite service.
It aint just an emmissions issue, as some of the older cars that are worse will be cheaper than some of the newer cars.
The question for me is why put it up for just some of the people
