Default Would you buy an E46 M3 with 100k???

I fancy buying an E46 M3 and the one I have seen has covered 100k. Would this put you off buying or are they good for big miles?

Is there anything I should look out for?

Any feedback is appreciated.

depends on how cheap it is

if its been serviced when it should have been then yes no problem; these engines are bullet proof

use the mileage as a bargaining tool; remember its a buyers market and there are loads of m3's for sale - pick and choose

Bought my e46 with 39k on it - now at 80k. I don't expect any issues whatsoever by 100k.

Of course parts wear out, brakes, rear trailing arm bushes, the seats might look a little worn compared to brand new, however when u get in it and drive it, it should be mint.

Mine does high speed motorway mileage everyday (about to head to Edinburgh in an hour or so, speeds will be high as the roads will be quiet) and it doesn't use any oil and loves every second of it.

Good luck

As long as it's been serviced regular then no worrys. My 318iS has 127k and doesn't burn oil. Doesn't even rattle first thing in the morning.

Cheers guys. Here is the link to the Pistonheads ad - Does anybody know the car, long shot I know.

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/753768.htm

I have always fancied one and was recently made redundant so the money is burning a hole in my pocket. Still haven't sold my Type R but who cares.

no experience with e46's but had a couple of e36's with mileage, and couple with low miles and to be honest dont think they drive any differant with 20k or 120k,
just remember that the rest of the car has done the mileage to so expect worn suspension and brakes etc, but to be honest they're well built and that mileage is barely run in

It will drive like a new car, 100k is nothing.

My beemer is on 130k and it sounds alot better/quieter than any ford ive had with half that mileage

Milage is not that important really. 100k is nothing on a car these days.

As long as it has a strong service history, specifically a dealer one then u can't normally go far wrong

just make sure it had its running in service @ 1200 miles & if its an early plate, check it had the rod bolts/bearings changed as the bottom ends had a recall for this,

bought my e46 m3 about 2 months ago and absolutely love it

My mate works for BMW in bracknell, and they had one in with 250k on and was still sweet as a nut, Bit of interior wear though but to be expected. As above though make shore its been well serviced as i think the 100k one is fairly expensive.

100K doesnt seem to be an issue for any of these sort of engines, but that said, id sooner pay a grand or two extra for one with less miles given the choice.

Its not like they are hard to find.

Unless I am mistaken, there is no "100k service"

It just rotates like this

1200 mile running in service (v important, and major reducer in value if missed)
oil service after around 14-15k miles
Inspection 1 (14-15k miles)
Oil service after another 14-15k miles
Inspection 2 (14-15k miles)
Oil service (14-15k miles)
Inspection 1 (14-15k miles)
Oil service after another 14-15k miles
Inspection 2 (14-15k miles)
Oil service (14-15k miles)
Inspection 1 (14-15k miles)
Oil service after another 14-15k miles
Inspection 2 (14-15k miles)
Oil service (14-15k miles)

I am sure u can see the pattern

As said, early ones needed rods and shell recalls, check that has been done. Interestingly, BMW dealers can tell you all the services done to the car, so u can check that the book is accurate.

Personally I know someone is going to get a steal when they buy mine one day. It is a 54 place so is a facelift model, has the engine made properly from the factory (no shell recall required) and will have high high motorway mileage, always get warmed up to total perfection too. So the value will be low due to miles but it will have had everything fixed if ever required and all motorway miles really.

100k no probs
