Boat engines, they tend to be made to be ultra reliable aren't they? What I mean to say is, do you know how much bhp and torque it actually makes, and does it drink the fuel??

book spec from vm for the 51a engine is 150 hp 220 lbft. this engine was in my dads old range rover years ago it was a conversion by motor and diesels in a d reg auto range rover. dads now got a p reg 2.5 td bmw engine range rover with manual box. the old rangie with an auto felt to have twice the torque of the bmw engine. and its so simple, push rod engine with literally no electrics to go wrong. external wastegate aswell. ive gotta find out what vm spec boost pressure at as it might have already been adjusted for the original conversion in the rangerover.

made me dig a bit last night this question and found out some interesting info. the engine code is a hr 692 ht and the exact same engine was fitted to a covini t40 in 1986. intercooled and more boost made 225 bhp at 4300 rpm cant find out what torque. was a 1350 kg car 0 - 62 7.5 seconds and top speed of 146 mph. engine was also fitted to 14 early jags as a trial for a diesel in the 70s.
