Yes mate, it's a known fact that a dog can sense a pregnancy. Look at this for how clever a dog can be.

Yes, they know. Don't know how but they do. My soft as shite retriever became an uber guard dog for my missus when she was pregnant. Even growled at me a couple of times, little sod.

they can tell due to the hormones / pheromones given off , same as they can tell when the female is on heat etc

they often become protective the same as they would in the wild with any mother-to-be within a pack

its a natural animal instinct and is present in humans although we have lost the ability to use it quite a lot due to evolution

i studied breeding programs in cattle and animal behaviour for a few years !

yeah mines the same, loves rolling and jumping about with other dogs when im walking him...but when she walks him he wont let other dogs anywhere near...im just a bit wary as when the baby comes hes not too hyper around him/her as he is a big dog, especially for a boxer...hes quite clumsy and when he jumps up at me he would have me over if i dont steady myself...a little un wont have no chance

Yes! Ours acts different and is really soft with Gem, but still plays rough with me. She's great with kids anyway
