Anyone drive/driven a V6 Vectra
Whats your thoughts please?
Ive read afew people saying they have a flat spot at some point in the rev range.
How do they drive/handle?
Im currently thinking about one of these (GSI)

I really like driving the V6, they're good on the motorway
you'll need to ring them for uptodate stock list cos it changes on a daily basis and they have LOADS more than the website suggests, but try here, its one of my dads best mates:

i had GSI a few years back, mine was an ex demo and was no more than 6 months old (but it wasnt the estate as youve shown!)
i couldnt have faulted the car atall and never came accross any 'flat spots'.
dont expect it to be a great handleing car, dont get me wrong, its certainly not bad for a everyday car but through the country lanes it did seem to feel a little bit wallowy!
they are a pretty well specced car and had most the little toys and gimics on board to keep you happy and was great for long motorway journeys, took mine accross through europe an a good few occasions and never had a problem with the car atall.
id certainly have one again as an everyday car! not a bad choice IMO

What are they like on acceleration?
Especially for overtaking (eg 40-80mph) i would really miss the cossie for that part!
At around 195bhp standard, im guessing it wouldnt be too hard to get it upto 250 or so?
Surely that would keep up with a standard cossie then...

its not to bad on acceleration, not to the levels of a cossie!
midrange acceleration is pretty good, im sure you wont be dissapointed in the car.
its pretty much a lazy mans car tho, you could be plodding through town in 3rd gear at about 20mph and it wouldnt mind, it would just purr along and a moment later you could be onto a dual carriageway still in 3rd gear and be accelerating onto 100mph, its very tourquey and easy to drive!

There were only 371 estate GSI's made, one of the best looking estates ever too IMO!
I would be going for a facelift model (post s/t reg i think) which are meant to have alot better handling. Soon sort it out anyway with a set of springs/dampers

Hmm yeah i thought about the volvo afew years back, i got put off by the big flat slab type looks! They do go well, but they just look like a million other boring estates to me.
The MD at work has an aero hot, nice car, but not really in my price range!
Ive read alot recently about saab going downhill rapidly, they are just GM cars underneath, so i may as well get a vauxhall that looks better lol

My Dad had a 2.5SRi for about 3 years
I liked it - it drove very well, and used to see 145 on the speedo very regularly
I just bought a P reg ST-24 for £2000, and its a quality car for little cash - maybe look at one of those?
Neil.

Vectra GSi
I have had a GSi estate for 4 years and it is a great mileage eater, the only mods needed were a set of Koni dampers.
I used it for all of my Nurburgring "driver training", it has probably done about 50 laps over the years.
I also race a Vectra V6 at the Nurburgring in the 24hr races and it is very reliable and easy to handle.

PassionFord Post Whore!!
Also, apart from looks there isn't a lot of point to the Vectra estate because the boot is smaller than the hatch and saloon unless you load above the cover.

I simply prefer the estate cause of its looks

They have a VERY heavy flywheel, which is probably why they lack bottom end. I also think they have an issue with the throttle body, but I can't remember what.
Speak to Gary @ APT as he had one last year and knows a bit about them.
As for increasing power. I bet that it would be a mission to squeeze 200bhp from one easily, let alone 250.
They are quite a nice car though and are taking one hell of a hit at the moment.

Courteney do the lightened flywheel for just over 500 quid fitted.
They also do tuning packages:
+15bhp £364
+24bhp £865
+30bhp including the flywheel £1499
Remap +10-15bhp £295.00
High torque cams 2.5 (+15 bhp) £350.00
Modified Throttle Body +6-8bhp £255 (exchange)
I would say 250 is possible looking at that, but not bloody cheap

Courtney are very good. They aren't far from us and we know them very well.
However, you can't add up the sum of those things in Max Power fashion. I bet that if you went for a Lightened Flywheel, Modified Throttle Body and a chip to match, you would only just make 200.
