Default Saving Account For Kids??

Does anyone know a good way of saving for kids??

Im currently paying cash in each month for my 8yr old son, not a great deal but everything helps!!

Im looking to transfer some of his current balance into a high interest account, but I have no idea which way to go. Either open him a new account or go down an ISA route in my name? I don't know his current interest rate, but I want it as high as I can get it.

Dont wanna stick it somewhere we cannot access it (As you never know what could happen),but want to earn him as much interest as possible!

Anyone got any suggestions? Cheers

Buy a escort mk1/mk2, bubble wrap it and stuff it in the loft for 10 years, you should get a pretty good return on that

Seriously though, investments like that, in future and current classics I think is a good way of accumilating extra cash, much safer too.

Just an idea

just find a bank /building society that gives you the best deal on a normal account, open one up in your name, stick the money in there, wait for the intrest to accumilate

juniors money goes into an account like this and it's paid up quite a bit over the past 2 and a bit years, i'll find out what it's called

Dojj normal account = taxation on interest, not ideal when your looking to maximise growth.

we put his monet into one of them government kid funds, after a year it was worth less than the £250 it started with

didn't know that kiddie money was tax free though, so might be worth giving him more

Dojj, my son was born in 2000 and the Gevernment £250 started in 2002. Ive had him with Halifax and now Natwest, but was told to stick it into a high interest account as it will be more beneficial when his older (He won't be rich, but he will have more than I did).

Had an EMail saying the 10% Halifax account will be open in 14 days, so I will transfer all his cash over and earn an estimated £150-£200 interest in 12 months as oposed to £40 from Natwest. Then will find another good deal after that, so Andy don't go anywhere
