Default strange squeek on my saph?

in the past few days my 4x4 saph has developed a strange squeek, i am driving the car the leeds on friday to the football and im abit concerned!

it basicaly sounds like a slipping fan belt but seems to be coming from under the car, it only does it under load not when just rolling. The squeek also gets faster the faster you go

any ideas please?

Without hearing the squeek, its gonna be hard for anyone to suggest anything.

Why not pop along to a garage and just get them to have a listen?

They should be able to give you some idea as to what it is.

i had a squeak coming from the front drivers wheel/undere the car. I thought it was a wheel bearing. It turned out to be the front prop shaft uj. It cost me about 20 guid for a new one. But the squeak got faster the faster i drove.

to be honest when mine was nackered i drove all over in my car and must of done about 500 mile with it been nackered. The thing is if it goes it could make a mess off your car and could do alot of damage. If you reach under your car and give the front prop a wiggle you should be able to feel the play. The grease gets hot and goes dry. Mine was cracked and alot of the pins fell out.

No bother mate glad i could help. Its not a hard job to do either. Just remove the 4 bolts that hold the anti roll bar to the floor then remove the bolts in the prop shaft. Remove the cir clips and remove the uj/spider joint.

Id still have a good look at the propshaft and all the uj's

My landy had the same squeek problem, getting faster with speed, then it went away so i ignored it.

A week later, i was towing a mk1 escort up to edinbrugh, had done 600miles, just out side edinbrugh the front prop uj spaped at 70 mph.

It was 2am pitch black, the truck weight 2.5 ton and the mk1 and trailer easily was another 2 ton, the the propshaft lifted my landy clear of the tarmac. the shaft battered the floor pushed my left foot up about 8" then flew off down the road.
luckily i snaked the whole thing over to the hardshoulder.

I never did find out where the prop ended up, had horrible visions of a bike hitting it!

So yeh for the sake of 10 mins checking it, and a 6 month squirt with the grease gun now. id say its well worth remembering!!!

Lee what a story, It could of been worse.Lozi.the squeak on the back could be something as sipple as a brake caliper sticking on causing the pads to be noisey.

Not always. When mine went it didn't damage the floor at all. It just took a huge chunk out of the subframe
